BEADWORK PROJECTS

Jan Jones' Patriotic Ribbon

Beadworker and polymer clay artist Jan Jones, of Texas, wrote up her peyote (gourd) stitch ribbon project for a group of friends, and has graciously allowed me to share it here with all of you.

Supplies

Beading

 1. This project is beaded in even-count flat peyote stitch. For instructions, visit any of the following sites:

 2. You will bead 4 total rows of each color. Jan usually starts with the red beads. Each row has 48 beads. To begin, cut an arm's length of thread and string on 96 beads. (Remember, the 96 beads will shift to become the first 2 red rows of 48 beads each.)

3. Row 3: Following the general instructions from one of the above websites, begin the next row by adding 48 beads.

4. Continue adding 48 beads for each row, until you have four rows of red, then four rows of white, then four rows of blue.

Fashioning the Pin

5. After the beading is complete, bend the ribbon around in the standard format for awareness ribbons, with a loop at the top.

6. Weave the end of the thread through beads toward where the ribbon crosses itself, and stitch it together by going through beads in each layer until the ribbon is securely fastened.

7. Next, turn it over and stitch the 3/4 inch pinback in the vertical position on the back of the piece.

8. HINT: Put the opening at the top, which will make it easier to put on when you get ready to wear it. Weave in the thread ends, trim them, and Wear With Pride!
