SIZE: Child’s 2 (3, 4) Finished chest measurement: 26 (27, 28.5)” / 66 (68.5, 72) cm.
MATERIALS:
Tamm’s 3-Ply Astracryl, used double throughout, except as noted (100% acrylic) 2564 yd / 16 oz (2345 m / 450 g) cones:
- 9 (10, 12) oz / 255 (284, 340) g #1240 Red (MC) divided between 2 cones
- 6 oz / 170 g #1201 White (CC1) divided between 2 cones
- 2 oz / 57 g #1204 Yellow (CC2) - 2 oz / 57 g #1287 Green (CC3)
- 1 oz / 28 g #1299 Black (CC4)
- Five 5/8” (1.6 cm) JHB Int’l #25063 “He Loves Me” buttons or similarily shaped daisy buttons
MACHINE: Any 6.5 mm mid-gauge. Sample knit on a Studio LK150.
GAUGE: 21 sts and 30.5 rows = 4” (10 cm) using 2 strands.
TENSION: T3.5 for st st.
NOTE: 1) MY is used double throughout, except as noted.

BACK

With 2-strands MC, e-wrap CO EON over 70 (72, 76) ndls. T2.5, K29R mock rib. Hang CO row on empty ndls. T4.5, K1R. RC000, T3.5. K to RCO42 (042, 050). Place sleeve marker both sides. K to RC084 (092, 100). Remove 22 (23, 24) shoulder sts on ea side and 26 (26, 28) neck sts separately onto WY.

RIGHT FRONT

With 2-strands MC, e-wrap CO EON over 33 (35, 37) sts. T2.5, K29R mock rib. Hang CO row on empty ndls. T4.5, K1R. RC000, T3.5. K to RC042 (042, 050). Place sleeve marker. K to RC070 (078, 086). Neck Shaping: COR. Set carr to hold. Put 5 (5, 6) ndls on L in HP. Dec 1 st at neck edge E/R 3x, then EOR 5x. Remove neck and shoulder sts onto WY. Join shoulder.

LEFT FRONT

K same as for R Front, rev shaping.

SLEEVES

With 2-strands MC, e-wrap CO EON over 40 (44, 44) st. T2.5, K29 (29, 37) rows mock rib. Hang CO row on empty ndls. T4.5, K1R. RC000, T3.5. FF inc 1 st ea side E6R 9 (0, 13)x, then E4R 0 (1, 0)x, then E5R 0 (12, 0)x. K to RC062 (072, 082) - 58 (70, 70) sts. Remove onto WY.

HOOD

With WY, CO 34 (37, 39) sts. K7R. K1R R.C. COR. RC000. T3.5. With 2-strands MC, K1R. Set carr to hold. Pull all ndls to HP, except 5 (6, 6) on carr side. KWK. Pushing ndls back to WP, KWK 5 (6, 6) sts 2x; then 3 sts 3x; then K rem 10 (10, 12) sts. Reset RC to 002. FF inc 1st E3R 4x, E5R 4x. RC034. Place marker on R. K to RC076 (080, 084). Remove onto WY. Make second piece, rev shapings. Join top hood seam. Block garment pieces.

EMBELLISHMENT

Flower Center: Make 2. With 2 strands CC2, at tightest tension, e-wrap CO over 3 ndls. Set carr to K in only 1 direction. K15R I-cord. Roll into a 5/8” (1.6 cm) coil and sew to sweater front (refer to picture for placement). Petals: Make 14. With 2-strands CC1, T2.5, e-wrap CO over 4 ndls. K10R. Dec to 2 sts, K1R, BO. Sew around flower center, with BO edge touching flower center. Stem: Embroider stem with CC3 using “outline st” (refer to embroidery chart). Leaf: Make 4. With 2-strands CC3, e-wrap CO over 4 sts. T2.5, K2R. Inc 2 sts by moving outside st on ea side to adj ndl. Put heel of 2 center sts on empty ndls. K6R. [Dec 1 st ea side, K2R] 2x. Dec to 1 st, BO. Sew one leaf on ea side of stems. Bee: Duplicate st bee with CC2 using Patt I. With 1 strand of CC4, Satin St (refer to embroidery chart) over st marked “X” on Patt I to make “head.” With 1 strand CC4 make 2 chain st “wings,” (refer to embroidery chart and Patt I). With 1 strand of CC4, sew over body of bee at an angle for “stripes.” (refer to Patt I).

FINISHING HOOD

Joining Hood to Neck: Join back seam. R side facing, hang neck sts of sweater on 58 ndls. With 2-strands MC, T3.5, K1R. Wrong side facing, hang hood sts in hooks, doubling 10 (16, 20) sts. Pull thru sts on ndls. T9, K1R, BO. Pie Crust Variation: With wrong side of front edge facing, use 2-prong trans tool, PU 2 sts on R and hang on 2 ndls. With 2-strands CC1, T3.5, K10R. Skip 2-3 sts. PU next 2 sts and hang on top of sts already on machine. K10R. Cont across in this manner. After knitting last 10R of CC1, hang rem 2 edge sts on 2 CC1 sts, K1R. BO.

BUTTON BAND

Front: With 2-strands MC, e-wrap CO over 52 (56, 60) ndls. RC000. T3.5, K10R. Remove onto WY. With R side facing, hang sweater edge on same ndls. Push behind latches. Wrong side facing, rehang front band in hooks and pull through sts on ndls. COL. Do NOT break yarn. Hang CO row from front band. T9, K1R. BO.

BUTTONHOLE BAND

Front: Knit same as for button band to RC005. Push ndls L22-23, L11-12, L1-R1, R11-12, R22-23 (L24-25, L12-13, L1-R1, R12-13, R23-25; L26-27, L13-14, L1-R1, R13-14, R26-27) to HP. With WY, manually K these sts back to WP. K5R. Remove onto WY. Back: With right side facing, hang sweater edge on same ndls. Push behind latches. With wrong side facing, rehang front band in hooks and pull through sts on ndls. K4R. PU loop to L of top WY sts on front band, hang on corresponding ndls to R of post on back band. Manually knit st through. Move this st to adj R ndl. PU loop between next 2 sts on WY, hang on same ndl and knit through 2 sts. PU loop to R of top WY sts, hang on same ndl and knit through 2 sts. You now have 2 empty ndls. PU 2 sts from bottom part of WY sts and hang on 2 empty ndls. K9R. Do NOT break yarn. Hang CO row from front band. T9, K1R. BO.

FINISHING

With right side facing, hang side between sleeve markers on 58 (70, 70) sts. Wrong side facing, hang sleeve. T9, K1R, BO. Seam ends of front bands, side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons. Steam lightly to touch up.
