CHRISTMAS PARTY

We had a great time at our December party at Bob Popps house. Please be sure to thank him for the use of his house again this year. The Club bought fajitas and all the trimmings and we had a fantastic meal. Elections were held with the following results:

JANUARY MEETING NOTES

There were 5 members and a new member at the Jan. meeting-John Kruse, from Brenham, joined. We set up the next meeting and, since there werent enough members there to conduct business, we adjourned to talk and eat.

All trips listed are conducted for the benefit of members and guests-the contact person(coordinator) of the trip reserves the right to limit the number of participants and to refuse participation to anyone who doesnt possess the skill level required for the trip. Paddling is a lot of fun, but each paddler knows his/her own skill level and is thus responsible for his/her own safety-the club or contact person assumes no responsibility for accidents. If you have a question about a trip or the skill level required, call the contact person listed.

Top Ten Safety Tips

• Tell someone where you are going, when you expect to return, and where to call if you don't.
• Make sure that your water skills and experience are equal to the river and the conditions.
• Never boat alone. Always have at least one (preferably two) other boats with you on a river trip.
• Wear a Coast Guard approved type III-V, properly adjusted lifejacket at all times when you are in or near the river.
• Know your limits of swimmers rescue and self rescue on rivers.
• Know when and how to swim for the eddy.
• Reduce injuries by wearing protective foot wear and proper clothing designed for river recreation.
• Be prepared for extremes in weather, especially cold.
• Know about hypothermia and how it can affect you.
• Plan your trip and stick to your plan.
