Samuel POWELL.
Born, circa 1616, in England.
Died, 1666, in Northampton Co.,
VA. He came to Virginia
about 1635. On 11 March 1650
he signed in Northampton County, VA the pledge of loyalty to the Commonwealth of England
as established without King or House of Lords. There was also a Gabriel Powell,
whom Southy Littleton claimed as a headright, in Northampton Co. VA. in 1655.
His relation to Samuel is not known. Probably he was his brother. All that is
known of Gabriel is an entry in Hungar's Parish records showing that Ann,
daughter of Gabriel and Helen was buried on 8 August 1660. Samuel left a will in Northampton County, Virginia
in which he named six children all, minors.
He married Unknown, before 1645. Died in Northampton Co. VA.
Samuel POWELL Jr. (Samuel, 1). Born in Northampton Co. VA. Died, 1722, in Northampton
Co. VA. He died intestate about 1722 leaving a
son John who administered his estate, and perhaps others.

County Tax Lists, 1736, Nanticoke

He married, first, Rebecca GILLIS, 26 Apr 1737, in Stepney Parish,
Somerset Co MD. She was the daughter of Joseph
and Eleanor Gillis.
He married, second, Unknown.
He married, third, Elizabeth WALTON.
Gabriel POWELL
(John, 5). Born, 1718, in Worcester Co. MD. Died, 11 Sep 1807, in Worcester Co. MD. Census: 1790, in Worcester Co MD. On 10 Jan. 1764 Gabriel Powell of Worcester County, yoeman,
sold to Joseph Marshall, blacksmith, for 5 pounds, 5 acres of McDANIELS RIDGE, patented by Gabriel on 18 March 1760.
He was listed in the MD soldiers of Colonial Wars 1704-1767 in Capt. Joshua
Sturgis's Company, Somerset County Maryland. On the 1774 Tax lists he had POWELLS NECK 50 acres and GABRIELS SECOND PURCHASE 10 acres. Gabriel patented tract
Conclusion in 1788, Worcester Co. MD. His will was probated 11 September 1807. He made bequests
to John Powell of Elijah 50 acres, to grandson Peter Powell of Elijah balance
of land. To three sons Zadock, Gabriel and William. To grandaughter Sarah
Powell. To son Levi Powell. To
wife Patience. Witnesses were George Purnell, Esther Purnell, Lazarus Townsend.
Bonds by Elijah Powell, Leonard Timmons, Bassitt Timmons. On 23 October 1807 Patience
Powell, widow, agreed to the division to property.
