Our Barrett DNA Project and where we stand.

Please note that when I say no matches, I mean as reported by Family Tree DNA. Several of our kits are marked private, which means they don’t see matches with anyone outside of our project.

ENG-1 – Kit 440 – 37 marker – no matches.

ENG-2 – Kits 5231 & 6383 – 25 marker – no matches to anyone other than themselves.

ENG-3 – Kit 5367 – 12 marker – no matches - 10 out of 12 with ENG-1.

ENG-4 – Kit 16240 – 25 marker – no matches.

ENG-5 – Kit 6976 – 12 marker – no matches.

ENG-6 – Kit 22018 – 37 marker – no matches.

GA-1 – Kit 20975 – 25 marker – no matches.

KY-1 – Kit 9754 – 37 marker – 36/37 match with KY-2 Kit 21355, 25/25 match with TN-1 Kit 8132, 12/12 match with TN-2 Kit 11657, and many matches with other names, particularly Hatcher.

KY-2 – Kit 21355 – 37 marker – 36/37 match with KY-1 Kit , 25/25 match with TN-1 Kit 8132, 12/12 match with TN-2 Kit, and many matches with other names, particularly Hatcher.

NC-1 – Kit 4472 – 25 marker - 12/12 match with one other kit of a different surname.

NC-2 – Kit 21293 – 37 marker – 12/12 match with SC-5 Kit 22833.

PA-1 – Kits 6618 & 11129 – 12 marker – 12/12 match to each other.

PA-2 – Kit 6540 – 25 marker – no matches.

SC-1 – Kits 4587, 6387,6810, 7500, & 17309 – 12 & 25 marker - match 12/12, 24/25, and 25/25 with other members of the group. Kit 7778 does not match the others in this group, but it was known that this would probably happen. 7778 does have matches with several other surnames.

SC-2 – Kits 16828 & 21405 – 25 marker - match 23/25 and 24/25 with members of SC-1. This was expected as the most distant proven ancestors of the two groups are believed to be brothers. They lived in the same area of Greenville Co., SC and are buried in the same cemetery. 5738 was a surprise no match to SC-1 & SC-2. He is a 12/12 match with two men of other surnames.

SC-3 – Kit 9582 – 25 marker – match 12/12 with TN-1 Kit 8132, KY-1 Kit 9754, TN-2 Kit 11657, & KY-2 Kit 21355.

SC-4 – Kit 12059 – 25 marker – no matches.

SC-5 – Kit 22833 – 12 marker – 12/12 match with NC-2 Kit 21293.

TN-1 – Kit 8132 – 25 marker – 25/25 match with KY-2 Kit 21355 & KY-1 Kit 9754, 12/12 match with TN-2 Kit 11657.

TN-2 – Kit 11657 – 12 marker – 12/12 match with KY-2 Kit 21355, KY-1 Kit 9754, & TN-1 Kit 8132 – 11/12 match with SC-3 Kit 9582.

TN-3 – Kit 14908 – 12 marker – no matches.

UK-1 – Kit 12601 – 37 marker – no matches.

Thus we have a total of 24 family groups (one extra from SC-1 and another from SC-2). Of these 13 have no matches or no matches outside of the family group.

How our markers stack up - Updated June 18, 2006

To produce the following table I went to http://www.ybase.org/statistics.asp and extracted the percents they showed for each alleles within each DYS#.  For example: for DYS# 19 (394) they show that 69% of the people in their data base have an alleles of 14.  The first row shows the DYS#.  The other rows show allele/percent.  If the percent is 15 or less I have shaded the cell with yellow.  The fourth cell in the eleventh and twelfth rows tells us that for DYS# 19 only 1% of those in the database have a value of 12.  I have included modal rows (shaded in light blue) for Ybase and for the project.  These show the alleles reported the most for each DYS
