I snapped
up this photograph moments before hearing over a radio in a kiosk that
Cary Grant had died in a hospital in Davenport, Iowa, where he had given
a performance of his one-man show "An Evening With Cary Grant" earlier
that night.
It
seems appropriate that this ethereal image of people strolling across the
station platform will stick in my mind forever as my association with his
death. The morning sun blazes through the glass of the train station,
suggestion hope. Seconds later, I stood in stunned silence to hear
of the demise of the silver screen's most suave and urbane idol.
There never will be another Cary Grant.
Requiscat
en pace.
