Wildebeest @ SXSW

Friday Night at The Hole in the Wall

Aftert the blow-out in-store at Hog Wild and an hour-long appearance by the Waistcoats on KUT Radio Thursday morning, the bands were ready to make an even bigger impression at their official SXSW showcase Friday night at the storied Hole in the Wall, across The Drag from the University of Texas campus. McLemore Ave., with their regular lineup in attendance including Andrew Gerfers on drums, started things off with a batch of Booker T-style soul instrumentals.
When Beetle Bob showed up in a fuchsia sport coat and started movin' and groovin', we knew that the Wildebeest showcase had received the Coolsville Seal of Approval.
The Sir Finks put on one of their best performances yet, ripping through a set of '60's garage stompers and fuzzed-out instros. That's Brian Marshall, publisher of Noises From the Garage, on the right in the crowd.
The Waistcoats again capped off the Wildebeest portion of the evening to a very enthusiastic crowd. A forty-minute set was not enough to slake their thirst for British beat. Fortunately, they had another show scheduled for Sunday night.
Saturday Night at KOOP Radio
The Waistcoats were invited to make an unplugged appearance on Scott Gardner's "Stronger Than Dirt" garage rock show on KOOP Radio Saturday night. Gerry traded in his organ for a guitar, Jack took up the tambourine, and E.J. took a blow on his harmonica. Despite the lack of electricity, it still gave KOOP listeners a charge.
