Solution:

Random Occurences

The Roc will carry you to it's nest from any of the locations indicated on Map 7. If it doesn't strike at the point shown in the solution, then move towards the nest location until it does, then proceed as shown.

The boulders falling down the stairs always occurs when you have at least TWO MOVES to a place of safety (See Maps). If and when you're told that there is a sound of boulders from ABOVE, seek the NEAREST gulley and "WAIT" until it passes safely. You're then safe to proceed UPWARDS as the boulder rolls away BELOW you!

Finally, you have a limited number of moves in daylight, at the start. You must find a temporary light source BEFORE SUNSET to carry on and enable you to locate a more permanent light source. Following this solution EXACTLY will allow enough time to achieve this.

Teleport System

Before beginning this adventure it's important to understand the "teleport" system as this saves a lot of trudging about. There are a number of colored collars hidden throughout the game, and an equal number of pedestals with the corresponding colored light shining upon them, placed at strategic locations. The colors are on the scale of the color spectrum (i. e. Red, Orange, Yellow, etc, through to Gold and Mithril).

Take and wear a colored collar, then go to a pedestal location and go "UP". Say any color, up to and including the color of the collar that you're currently wearing, and you'll teleport to the corresponding colored pedestal.

To teleport to "higher" colored pedestals, you must be wearing the "higher" colored collar. Be careful when teleporting to the BLUE pedestal as this is located in the Wight's House and you must be carrying the cross and crucifix to force them away when you descend from the pedestal!

Start

On a Wide Stone Bridge... go down to the Mud Bank, outside the Packing Case.

Head in, then in again. TAKE the CHANDELIER and the room will now invert. Go east and PRESS the BUTTON and a "copy" of your body scan has now been processed! Go out and up, then north four times, and TAKE ALL. The helmet will later provide your permanent source of light but it needs the Will o' the Wisp to function properly. Go south five times, then west twice, and TAKE the SEED. Note that the seeds from this pod are explosive! Go east three times, then north, and WAVE the SEED to cause some loud explosions, and also making you temporarily deaf. Go north and the Siren flees! You can now TAKE the MIRROR. The tree to the north is a killer willow tree, and has six deadly "arms". Therefore you must throw SIX objects over first to occupy the arms and render it safe! THROW the SEED, CRUCIFIX, and HELMET, which are all grabbed upwards by the tree.

Go south twice, then east twice, and a sleep spell will now hit you, but the mirror will reflect it! Go south and you'll frighten off a masked man. TAKE ALL and note that the dice are "loaded". This'll later prove useful. Now go north, west, north again, and up. The berry that you find here is really to drop on the Giants below, but as your inventory is currently full, you can drop the dice. The net effect is the same! DROP the DICE and the Giants run off. Go down, north, and TAKE the BELT, then wear it (WEAR BELT) so you can now carry more. TAKE the DICE. Go south twice, west, north twice, and THROW the DICE, COINS, and MIRROR. All the killer willow tree's arms are now occupied. Go north and TAKE the AXE. CHOP the TREE and the Dryad will beg you to spare the tree. Say "YES" and she'll give you a carving and makes the tree drop everything. TAKE ALL and WEAR the HELMET.

Go south twice and the Sun will now begin to hang low in the sky. Go south, west three times, South, west, and WAIT. The Leader of the Rakshasa wants to gamble. Say "YES" and as the dice are loaded, you win! Go east three times, then WAVE the SEED and the explosions scare off the bloated yellow bird. Go up and TAKE the EGG. Climb back down and go north, west, north, down, and DROP the SEED. TAKE the CASE and DRIFTWOOD. Go up and you'll note that the Sun is now setting, but you're soon to obtain a temporary light source. Go north three times and LIGHT the DRIFTWOOD. Note that the "Treasure Vault" to the East is a trap! DROP the CASE. Go in and then again in and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the CARVING. DROP the COINS, EGG, MIRROR, and AXE. PRESS the BUTTON and go out. TAKE the CASE and go north twice, then west. SEARCH the CORPSE. WEAR ORANGE. TAKE ALL. Go east, southeast, northeast, then THROW the CORPSE, and the Jellies will converge upon it! Go southwest and PUSH the STONE three times and the slab now slides from the doorway.

Go east and PRESS the BOULDER and the moss moves from the walls! Go east and TAKE the SWORD. Now head west, northwest twice, and TAKE the FIGURINE. Go southeast, northeast, and the Octopus will enable you to see. TAKE the STAFF and go southwest, then west twice. TAKE the CUBE, which is magnetic. Go east four times and SEARCH the HAYSTACK to find a Jewelled Needle. DROP the CASE and TAKE the NEEDLE. Go in and then in again, and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the NEEDLE, CUBE, and DICE. PRESS the BUTTON, and go out. TAKE the CASE, then go west twice, southwest, up twice, and WAVE the STAFF. The Skeletons leave and the Dwarf offers to locate a rich vein of ore for you as a reward. WAVE the WAND to see off the Flint. Throw her to the southeast and the Dwarf now follows you. WEAR GREEN and TAKE the CHAIR. Go northwest, then up, and KILL the DRAGON WITH the SWORD. TAKE ALL. DROP CASE. Go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the BED, TEETH, CHAIR, STAFF, WAND, and FIGURINE. PRESS the BUTTON and go out. TAKE the CASE and go down and north, where you'll see the Vampire cowering from your crucifix. Go west and TAKE CROSS. Go east and THROW the CROSS and the Vampire will be killed. TAKE the CROSS and go east, out, west twice, and up twice. From now on if you hear a boulder approaching from ABOVE, proceed to the nearest gulley and "WAIT" until the boulder passes safely. You're now safe from the sound of boulders from below!

Go up three times and the Dwarf will now find a hidden opening in the rock. Go in and TAKE the ORE. DROP the CASE. Go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the ORE. DROP the CROSS and the CRUCIFIX. PRESS the BUTTON, then go out. TAKE the CASE and go south. Remember to make for the nearest gulley when you hear the sound of boulders from above! Go up four times, then north, where you're now asked for the password. PASSWORD (!!). Go north, up and SAY YELLOW to teleport to the Yellow Pedestal. Go down, west three times, south, and TAKE the STICK. Go north, east four times, north twice, up four times, and south three times. Remember those boulders again! Go up four times, then north twice.

BLOW on the STICK and the whistling sound opens the door. Go north, east, south, down twice, north three times, then east, and TAKE the WISP and you now have a permanent light source! Go west and the Roc should now carry you up to it's nest. TAKE the CATERPILLAR. SQUEEZE the CATERPILLAR and a silken rope is formed! Now DROP the CATERPILLAR and TAKE the ROPE and CRYSTAL. DROP the CASE and go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the STICK, CRYSTAL, and DRIFTWOOD. PRESS the BUTTON, the go north and out. TAKE the CASE.

TIE the ROPE TO the NEST. Go down and LOOK and you'll acquire a battered Silver Face Mask. TAKE the MASK. Go south three times, west, south, up twice, north, west, south twice, up and SAY RED to teleport to the Red Pedestal. Go down, southeast, northeast, west twice, south, and TAKE the SLIVER. Go north, west twice, south, and TAKE and WEAR the BLUE. The Blue Pedestal is in the middle of the Wight's House, so remember that you'll need the Cross and Crucifix! TAKE the CREAM and go north, east three times, south, and TAKE the POT, which you should not drop ANYWHERE yet! Now go north, east three times and the Rat flees from the potato sliver! Go north and TAKE the PENDANT. DROP the CASE. Go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the MASK, SLIVER, and the PENDANT. TAKE the CROSS and CRUCIFIX. PRESS the BUTTON, and go out. TAKE the CASE and go south, west twice, southeast, and TAKE ALL. Go northwest and WEAR the CREAM. It's to be rubbed all over you for protection from heat! Go up twice and in. TAKE the MEDALLION and go out. Go down twice and north twice, and FILL the POT with the slime. Go up twice and EAT the MUSHROOM, which is a drug. An illusion of a golden pathway replaces the rotting bridge!

Go north and a Troll will demand payment. GIVE the MEDALLION. Go north five times and you bump into some invisible mushrooms! EAT the MUSHROOMS and you become invisible! Go south three times, west, and TAKE the SPICES and MEDALLION. Go east, north, and down, and you're now visible again. EAT the MUSHROOMS and you'll now shrink and all your worldly goods will be deposited on the ground. Notice how the cracked pot is cleverly tucked away in a corner, though! Go north twice and the Ants will ignore you. EAT the MUSHROOMS. EAT the MUSHROOMS. You're now a Giant and on the way back you'll crush the Ants! Go south twice and now you must shrink again and perform a little task, empty handedly! EAT the MUSHROOMS. Go up, north four times, west, and OPEN the DOOR. Forget about the chest for now. You must return later from the OTHER side of the door for it. Go east, south four times, down, north twice and EAT the MUSHROOM to grow again!

Go south twice and TAKE the BELT. WEAR the BELT, HELMET, and BLUE. TAKE ALL (In the original text only version, you must take each item separately. But you must take and wear the belt FIRST! DROP the CASE. Go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the MEDALLION, SPICES, and BOW. PRESS the BUTTON. Go out and TAKE the CASE. Go up, south four times, down twice, south twice, west, up, and SAY BLUE to teleport to the Blue Pedestal. Go down, south twice, and SHUT the COFFIN. Secure it with the hammer and nails, which prevents the Zombie from attacking you! TAKE the TRIDENT and go north tree times, west, north, up, and DROP the POT. It will shatter and spill the slime you've earlier collected in it. TAKE the HORN and it's skidsville for the Goat! Go up. During the next few moves you may hear a boulder approaching from above. Take refuge in the NEAREST GULLEY, as before. Go up seven times, north three times, east, up, and PUSH BUTTON 9. LOOK around as you're now in the Pit.

WEAR SILVER. TAKE the GEM and the Demon within now attacks your mind! HIT the GEM using the hammer. Go east twice, north, south twice, west, south, up twice, north, up, and PUSH BUTTON 4 and the Throne rises through a trap door and you're now in an Odd Little Room. Go down and WEAR the MITHRIL. DROP the HAMMER and TAKE the LAPIS and ONYX. DROP the CASE. Go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the LAPIS, ONYX, CRUCIFIX, TRIDENT, and CROSS. PRESS the BUTTON. Go out and TAKE the CASE. Go up and SAY SILVER to be teleported to the Silver Pedestal. Go down, east and through the armored door that you earlier unbolted! TAKE the CHEST and go west. DROP the CASE. Go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the CHEST. PRESS the BUTTON. Go out and TAKE the CASE. Go north and TAKE the PIG. Go east, down, and DROP PIG and it dissolves! LOOK then TAKE the PEARL. Go up three times, east, up, east, and TAKE the TOPAZ. Go west twice, up twice, and then east. TURN the STATUE to reveal an opening eastward. Continue east. TAKE the RHINESTONE. Go west twice, down five times, north, down, and in. PRESS BUTTON 9, then PRESS BUTTON 4. INVENTORY (the prize is a Sapphire!).

Go up four times, in and TAKE the BOX. Go out, down three times, south, and DROP the BOX and you'll drown the snake within! OPEN the BOX and TAKE the OPAL. Go north, up four times, in, east, and TAKE the EMERALD. Go west, out, up five times, in, and the boulder passes safely! Go out, up twice, in, and a Black Sphere will now follow you. Go out, up three times, and CLOSE the EYES to avoid the effect of what you would otherwise see! Go north and the Black Sphere will now collide with the other one destroying each other in the process! OPEN the EYES and TAKE the DIAMOND. DROP the CASE. Go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the TOPAZ, DIAMOND, OPAL, RHINESTONE, EMERALD, PEARL, and SAPPHIRE. PRESS the BUTTON. Go out and TAKE the CASE. TAKE the SHIELD and go south. CLOSE the EYES. Go down and OPEN the EYES. Go down, in, and the shield protects you from the spikes. SEARCH the CORPSE. TAKE the BLINDFOLD and GAUNTLET. Go out, up, in, WEAR the GAUNTLET to protect your hand from the ring. TAKE the RING and go out. Go down twice, in, and TAKE the WEDGE. Go out, down twice, in, and the boulder again passes safely! Go out, down twice, in, and DROP the WEDGE. Go west a number of times until you'll eventually reach the Treasure Room, where you TAKE the AGATE.

Go east three times, down, and THROW the RING INTO the OPENING to tie up the flesh! Go in TAKE the RUBY. Go out, down, and WEAR the BLINDFOLD. Go in, where the acid destroys your blindfold, but not your eyes! TAKE the BROOCH, then exit and go down three times. Enter and THROW the BROOCH. The elephant on the brooch expands and flattens the Executioner! TAKE the AMETHYST. Go west and TAKE the HOOD, but don't wear it! Go north, down twice, south, up four times to the exit. DROP the CASE. Go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the HORN, SHIELD, HOOD, and GAUNTLET. TAKE the SAPPHIRE, EMERALD, OPAL, DIAMOND, PEARL, and TOPAZ (you now hold NINE gems).

PRESS the BUTTON, then go out. TAKE the CASE and go in (you've survived the Central Dungeon, but there's only one way out! DROP the CASE. Go in twice and TAKE the CHANDELIER. Go east and DROP the PEARL, OPAL, SAPPHIRE, EMERALD, AGATE, AMETHYST, DIAMOND, RUBY, and TOPAZ. TAKE the CRUCIFIX, CROSS, TEETH, HORN, and PRESS the BUTTON. Go out and TAKE the CASE. Go east, up, and SAY RED to teleport to the Red Pedestal. Go down, south six times. From now on, when you see Orcs, "BLOW HORN". BLOW the HORN! Go east four times, where a hollow voice intones: "This is your referee speaking. If you continue on this road you will return safe to civilization and the game will end. Are you sure that you want to?". Reply "YES".
