When the "beast" title appears, hold down both mouse buttons and the 'Fire' button until asked to insert disk 2. This will give you unlimited lives. Unfortunately, this doesn't work on all versions.

Go left from the opening screen. Watch out for the rocks, bats, and spikes in the floor, and enter the tree. Go right and jump the fireball from behind. Descend the ladder and then go left and punch out the yellow wasp. Descend the next ladder and then go right. Crouch and punch the large green insects, and then go down the next ladder. Go left across the bridge and watch out for the tree roots from above. Go down the ladder then go right and punch out the purple ogres as you go. Descend the next ladder and then go down the ladder on the right. Go down the bamboo ladder, then go left and down the next bamboo ladder. When you`re half way down the ladder, go left. Watch out for the deadly drips from above and punch the ogres. Don`t worry too much about energy, since there's more to soon be available. Keep going left and jump the gap to the key, being careful not to fall!

Pick up the key and go right, falling into the gap. Go right and pick up the energy refresh. Continue right watching for the snakes, then climb the bamboo ladder. Climb the next bamboo ladder, then go up the wooden ladder, and then go left. Descend the next ladder. Now go left, watching for the ogres until you get to the big fire breathing monster. Duck the fire and keep punching the ball until it desintegrates. Go back to the right and enter the teleport. Climb the wooden ladder and then go right. Wait for the progam to access the disk and display a big monster. Blast it with your weapon until it explodes, but don`t let it touch you, whatever you do.

Go right over the bridge and watch for the green ogres and the ceiling spikes. Climb the first ladder you come to, then go left, where you'll find even more green ogres. Punch the switch on the wall, which turns off a force field further down.

Go back to the right and up the ladder. Now go left, punching the red bats and dodging the bouncing eyes, to pick up the key. Go back to the right past the eyes and bats, past the ladder, to the oil drum. Punch the drum and pick up the bottle for four energy points.

Go back to the right, down the ladder, right, down the next ladder, right, and up the next ladder. Watch out for the snail! Go all the way down the ladder on the right and then go left. Stop just after the hanging rock and crouch. Watch your timing to get past the bouncing blue demons and the fire breathing dragon heads, as you can't destroy them.

Carry on left until you get to the bouncing Psygnosis signs. Punch out the first two bats and then run straight through under the signs. Go down the next ladder, watching for the slug. Jump right over the slug and drop off the end of the ledge. Go right and watch your timing with those nasty skulls and wasps! Continue right and pick up the energy refresh.

Descend the ladder to your left and then go right, jumping over the slinky creature. Go down the next ladder and left past the statue. Watch the flames that scoot along the floor and the giant wasps, dropping bombs. Go down the next ladder and then left. Knock the spider off the roof and go down the next ladder. Now go left, up the ladder, left, and down. Go left and punch the ghost. Climb the ladder and go right. The switch that you hit before should have turned off the electric field, allowing you to pick up the power punch. Go left and all the way down the ladder, watching for the ghost, who's halfway down. Go right, continuing to watch for the ghost and being careful with your timing, get past the jet engines. Keep going right past the ladder, punching out the ghosts and serpents as required.

Dodge the spikes and rapidly crounch and punch the fire breathing monster until it explodes. Now go through the door and climb the ladder out of the well and go right. Kick the pillars to get an extra strength load. Watch out for more extra strength. After another load, watch out for the dragons above dropping bombs. When you get to the castle, go past the door to get the torch, so that you can see once inside. Now go back and enter the castle.

Once inside, go left, up, right, watching out for spaceships above you that're dropping bombs, collect the extra strength. Go down, right, up, and as left far as possible, down, left, and collect the extra strength. Watch out for the guys coming out of the trap doors in the floor. Then go up and right to collect all the extra strength and finally the spanner at the far right. Now go as far left as possible, then down, right, down, right, and fall down, left, and across bridge, down, right, and watch out for the giant monkeys, down, left, and keep going until you find a chest. Hit it and take the gun. Now go as far right as possible until there's a force field. Use the spanner to go through, then go up, left, down, left, up, right, down, left as far as possible then down, right, and kill the three headed dragon.

You must have a key to go through the door and you'll now have a mask on. The game is now a shoot'em up. Keep going right, while hitting pillars on the ground for extra strength, until you get to the giant monster. Hit the pincers above and below and its tongue until it blows up.

If you have the second key, go throught the door to leave the castle. When outside the castle, keep going right, hitting pillars for extra strength and kill the dragon at the end. Now you`ll get the message "Congratulations you have freed yourself from the Shadow of the Beast".
