Drakan: The Ancients' Gates (Sony) - The Flesh Mage's Lair

Last modified on June 2nd, 2004

Enter the north central room, which is larger and doesn't resemble the others. Take the western fork and she'll hear some sinister laughter. Get a Wyvern Claw and a Full Mana potion from the chest. The chest to the south contains a Life Potion and Grotus' Potion, which is what she's after. Head back to the eastern side of the area and she'll again hear laughter in this room as well. Get a Mithril Battle Shield from the chest to the east and a Full Mana Potion from the southern chest. Head north up the stairs and turn west. Head up to the teleporter in the alcove to the north, then turn south back into the initial room. The area boss (a very large Floating Demon) appears and is a bit incredulous that Rynn has come to fight him. Cast Time Slow, then give him a few whacks with Mournbringer and he'll say "I can't believe this!" or "This can not be!" and expire.

Floating Demon

Head north to the teleporter and save your game status, then have her step upon it. Well what do you know, here we are back at the "Bridal Hall". Five sets of two skeletons at a time try to prevent her from re-entering. One of them may drop a Health Elixir. Have her enter and she'll drink the potion. Run around and get two Health Elixirs and a Half Mana potion from small jugs on the pedestals. She can speak to the lady who's standing to be asked if she's one of the new brides? The lady on the lounge chair is silent. Walk over to the central circle and step on it to descend. Head west down the corridor and step on the next lift to descend another floor. Head west and then turn north and sneak up on the Assassin, with his back to her and take him out. A second one moves in to attack and gives up a Health Elixir, followed by a third one a bit later. There is another silent lady on a nearby lounge chair. Head outside and turn right and she'll be told to get back inside with the other women, should there be any enemies to the east. Ignore this and go take out the two Floating Demons. If they're not there, they'll greet her when she return inside. Return and proceed east down the hallway, then enter the room full of ladies. Get a Health Elixir from the southeastern chest. Get a Half Mana potion from the pedestal in the same corner and she'll be asked if she's one of the new brides again. If she approaches her, the lady says "It's almost time for Zeira to be wed, I'm so happy for her!" Head out into the main portion of the room and an Assassin and a Demon Lord attack, giving up a Life Potion. An Assassin is guarding the next alcove to the east. Take it out. Get a Health Elixir from the pedestal, and the chest is empty. There'll be some more relatively unimportant conversation in here. Have her speak to the lady in the rear, who's wearing a mask. She'll say "Soon I'll be next to be wed." Head into the north alcove and open the chest for two Health Elixirs, a Full Mana potion, and a piece of Magic Ornate Armor, which isn't quite as good as what she's wearing. Pick up a Health Elixir from a pedestal in the northwestern alcove and find another empty chest. Now head for the closed door and it will open.

Enter and the Assassin nearby will turn tail and run. Head after it back into the room, she first entered in this area, and destroy it and the three Floating Demons, who head in to attack. Pick up a Health Elixir and a Life Potion, which they may drop. Continue to the west through the newly opened door and head down the stairs, then turn south and continue downward. A Demon Lord will appear as she nears the end of the hallway. Rush it and take it out before it can do much damage. Head west up the stairs and save your game progress before getting to the top of the stairs. Continue up and the door will open. Enter and sneak up to the Assassin, with it's back to her and Back Stab it, then watch the Ferry arrive and then depart shortly thereafter. Head back inside and down the stairs and take out the Floating Demon, who says "Come here girl, I'll make it quick!", then moves toward her to attack. Continue on through the door, which will eventually close after her. Get a Life and Full Mana potions from the pedestals. Zeira is here! Take out the Demon Lord, who attacks her. Head east down the stairs and she'll meet four more Assassins and a Floating Demon. Take them out, then grab the Potion of Life, which they may leave, then continue west down the hallway and turn north and head for the door. Step outside and watch the Ferry leave. Destroy two more Assassins, who attack from the west, then head along the path to the left, while evading the arrows, and take out the archer, who has very poor aim. Head north through the door, then turn west and head down the stairs. Turn north again and enter the room beyond. It turns out that Mardis is the Ferryman and has a part in these nefarious deeds. He begs not to be killed and offers some helpful information. She learns that the Flesh Mage has hidden his soul in an urn and also has created the Golem Staff, which she needs to obtain. She now has the "Destroy the Flesh Mage's Soul Jar." and "Retrieve the Golem Staff." quests. Then walk forward and watch a ghostly ferry move from one teleport chamber to another, indicating that the ferry has returned here. Get two Health Elixirs and a Half Mana potion, then head south, and east back up the stairs, go south through the doorway, and three Assassins will attack. Take them out, and get on it by walking across the path outlined with falling petals. You'll see the ferry returning to the Flesh Mage's Lair and the gangplank magically extending from the deck to the dock.

Exit the ship and she'll hear "Do not let her escape brothers!" Take out the two Floating Demon enemies on the near side. Reboard the ship and destroy the third one should there be a third one. Get back off and head back to the teleporter. Step upon it, then run down the dark reddish hallway and save your game before she walks out onto the center of the platform. The Flesh Mage is delighted to see her and wants to hear her scream as he kills her. He's invulnerable, so the only thing to do here is run. Head back off of the platform and go through the door on the right (left as she's going off) side, which closes after her. The first of six Golems starts walking toward her. She hears "Why delay the inevitable? My Golems will find you and your flesh will be mine!" from the Flesh Mage as she walks down the hallway. Let it come a ways toward her before attacking it or you'll be fighting two of them at once. These guys can take her out with one frontal pounding so be careful. Use a hit and run strategy against them. It takes about twelve hits with Mournbringer to destroy one. The Golem drops a Half Mana potion when defeated. Fortunately their bodies dissipate after a few seconds or they'd be difficult to navigate around. Save your game frequently in here! Take out the Golem in the north alcove (you may be able to get it to stand right at the comer and just sit and take a pummeling with arrows or a spell), then turn right and enter the next room and the door closes firmly behind her. Turn south and move forward a little and encounter two more Golems in alcoves off the main corridor. Retreat and try to lure them one at a time back the way she's come. Soften them up with Impale or some arrows, then destroy them both with her melee weapon, using a hit and run attack. Continue in and take out the one coming from the western corridor, which drops a Health Elixir when vanquished.

Head south down the central corridor toward the exit, which is currently blocked with a red force field. Turn east after the last Golem (if there) and destroy it. Grab the Health Elixir and Long Battle Bow from the skeleton in the southeast alcove. Head back north down one of the central corridors and turn toward the first of two floor switches, which resemble slightly raised carpeting. Hmm, sounds like there're Scavengers nearby! Be aware that as soon as she steps on the floor switches, two Skeletons and two Skeleton Archers arise and attack. Deal with them, then summon an Ice Blast spell, and have her run across the carpet switch, take about three more steps, and fire an Ice Blast at the force field beyond. Don't target the thing inside, just fire off the spell toward the force field. She must strike the center of the doorway before the force field re-energizes, to successfully destroy it and allow her to enter the room and pull the switch. Note that a Scavenger guards each of the east side rooms and that two shots of Ice Blast will take one out. It's actually easier to back up onto the floor switch, then have her run forward and blast the force field. Re-equip her melee weapon and have her return to the other carpet switch and repeat this procedure on the force field on the other side. Now head north one section and repeat this procedure on the remaining two force fields. The exit door force field is turned off as she pulls the fourth switch. Save your game, then go through and she'll hear "You can not hide from me my pretty one. This is my domain. The Flesh Mage is lord of the necropolis." as she first heads east down the short corridor

Take out two Golems, one of which drops a Health Elixir, then head back the other way to the west and take out a dozen Skeletons and another Golem, which drops a Half Mana potion. Her Mournbringer may be nearing it's endurance limit, so have another melee weapon Hot Slotted, so a quick switch can be made if neccessary. Continue this way and save your game again before turning the corner to the north. She enters a room with two Golems standing to either side and an urn in the center. Casting Time Slow will make this battle go a bit easier. Alternatively just have her stand in the doorway and cast Impale at either one. You should be able to get the Golem to hesitate at the doorway after she's backed away from it, and be able to cast a sufficient number of Impale spells at it to take out the two Golems one at a time. Now return to the center and stand facing north and whack the urn. The door to the north alcove will be opened shortly thereafter permitting the egress of a third Golem, which moves a bit faster than any of the heretofore battled Golems. You can however use the torches in the room to slow it down and then use Impale to finish it off. It drops a Half Mana potion when it falls. Save your game, then exit the room to the north and battle the two Golems and the Flesh Mage in the corridor, trying to stay out of the Flesh Mage's path and taking out the two Golems, who'll drop a Half Mana potion and a Health Elixir upon expiration. Ignore the Flesh Mage, who'll try to grab her and drain her health, as much as possible and head down the corridor and exit through the left door.

A Scavenger appears at the doorway and a Golem is not far beyond. The Golem drops a Half Mana Potion when defeated. Another Golem approaches from the north passage. Lure it into the initial corridor as there's a bunch more beyond and fighting several at once is dangerous! Another one follows and is again best fought back here away from unwanted company. Two more attack from the nearby alcoves to the north. Then two more come in for a battle from the alcoves a bit farther beyond. Head north toward the end of the corridor and then turn east and go around the corner. Have her head for the doorway and walk through to hear "Why do you run from me? Don't be bashful my darling! Is this not our day of joy?" and the door closes firmly behind her. Four Golems move in to attack. Destroy all of them, and pick up a couple of Half Mana potions. Head northeast toward the exit door. When she gets close enough to it,the exit door disintegrates revealing a Golem behind it. Let the Golem come out to her and battle it in the large room. Save your game, then head north on through the doorway. Hmm what's this? Skeletons on spikes with an urn in the center. Guess we better smash the urn! My goodness it's an elevator! Head toward the exit in the southwest corner and take out the three Scavengers, who come out to attack. Head straight on and check out the skeleton on the right. Pick up a Health Elixir and a Skeletal Touch sword. Head south at the corner and take out the three Scavengers in the alcoves along the south wall. Continue east about halfway and battle another two Scavengers and two Skeleton Archers off to the left, who're guarding the exit ramp. There's another Scavenger in the northeastern alcove. Return to the ramp in the center of the south wall and follow it up and continue up the stairs.

Here's a room with a bunch of urns. Wander about for a bit and a group of Skeleton Archers appears and starts firing as well as a few Skeleton Warriors moving into the fray. Destroy all of them and take out any urns in her way. When the last Skeleton is destroyed, all the remaining urns disintegrate leaving two Health Elixirs, a Half Mana potion, and an Invisibility potion on the floor. Head up the stairs to the south and she's greeted with "Ah my dearest won't you stop this foolishness? Come and embrace your loving husband!" Save your game before sending her up the stairs. There's a Half Mana potion and Long Battle Bow on the right and two Health Elixirs. While a Mithril Battle Shield and two Health Elixirs rest on the opposing ledge. Head over to the switch by the railing and pull it. Target the chandelier with her bow or a spell and fire at it to cause the chandelier to come crashing down and smash the casket below, releasing a flying urn. Start off with an Invulnerability Potion to get the lay of the land. She'll be better off down below as the Flesh Mage will tend to stay high in the air. Have her cast Time Slow and then Ice Blast. Quaffing an Invulnerability potion or two here is advisable as well. Target the quickly darting urn when you can and fire away at it when locked on. If she needs to get back up top, send her toward the teleporter at the back of the area and have her step on it to land back up near the balcony. After she destroys it, the Flesh Mage admits the error of his ways and blames it on Jassad. In an attempt to atone, he gives her his Golem Staff, created with a part of his soul, and says use it and he will be no more. She now has the "Use Yutaji's staff to deactivate the Pain Golem." quest. Take the Golem Staff (she'll probably have to lighten her pack a bit first) and go back down the stairs and re-enter the prior room. Walk over to the teleporter, then step upon it.
