Various kinds of Grull are found from the beginning of the game, as she's walking toward Surdana, through her time in the Valley of the Fallen after she's rescued Perry. As with all of the game's enemies, they aren't very bright. An individual Grull will run and cower when almost vanquished. Grull possess the power of rudimentary speech, and occasionally a Grull will spot her and run away to enlist the aid of one or more Wartoks to come join in his attack. In cases where an attacking Fire or Ice Grull or Fire or Ice Wartok is out of immediate reach (e.g. on a ledge or platform ahead or up above), equip her bow or spell and target the enemy. Let the enemy begin to fire, roll to one side as he does to evade the incoming fire, then stand and fire one shot, roll in the opposite direction as the enemy begins to return fire. Repeat this back and forth roll procedure as required until the magic using Grull is history.
| Grull Type | Description |
|---|---|
Club | are the first Grull she'll encounter. They wield wooden clubs with a couple of metal spikes near the end. They are the weakest form and she can easilly take one out with a few whacks from her currently equipped melee weapon. |
Mace | are slightly more powerful than the Club Grull and wield a flanged metal mace, which they use to take ungainly swipes at her when she draws within striking distance. |
Cleaver | actually seem to be a little smarter than their less powerful relatives. They carry a large metal cleaver. |
Fire | use a rudimentary form of fire magic, by repeatedly casting spheres of red energy at her. They'll switch to weak backhanded swipes, when she gets into melee range. They're best dealt with from a distance with either her bow or a spell. Failing that, a zig zag approach to within striking distance will avoid most of the incoming fire attacks. |
Ice | use a rudimentary form of ice magic, by repeatedly casting spheres of blue energy at her. It can sometimes freeze her solidly in place (i.e. mid-stride, mid-jump, etc.). Should this happen, rappidly press the 'X' button to break her out of it. They'll switch to weak backhanded swipes, when she gets into melee range. They're best dealt with from a distance with either her bow or a spell. Failing that, a zig zag approach to within striking distance will avoid most of the incoming ice attacks. |
Goliath | are the giant form of Grull. Fortunately there are few of these creatures, who attack by throwing things (crates, barrels (particularly the exploding kind), crystal shard bearing ore fragments, etc.) at her, or slapping at her if she gets within melee range, which is illadvised. Individual strategies are given in the walk through. It's best for her to keep her distance, dodge or stay out of range of its projectiles, and fill it full of arrows or magic spell based attacks. It'll keel over forward when vanquished, so avoid standing in front as one falls or she'll be squished and you'll get to restart! |
| Bonegrinder | is a unique, large, and vocal Grull. He's invulnerable when she first encounters him. She must find and target (with her bow or a spell (e.g. lightning)) three small blue stones set in roots, which are equidistantly spaced around the area perimeter. This is best done under cover of an Invulnerability potion. He can attack with an overhead smash from his staff and by casting an expanding wave of blue energy. Fortunately, both of these attacks require some preparation, and she can knock him off of his stride with a well-timed swing. He's not overly difficult to defeat, once he's vulnerable. If her health becomes depleted, have her run behind one of the tree roots and quaff a potion. |
