Drakan: The Ancients' Gates (Sony) - Shadowmire

Last modified on February 10th, 2004

Send her back to town so she can sell the items you don't think she'll need. You can drop items in shops and other places and return for them later. The game remembers what and where. You can have her buy the Ornate Leather armor, although this area is survivable without it. It is now however time for her to buy some magic. Head left out of the Blacksmith's Shop and cross the stream, then turn left again and walk to the edge near the waterfall. Stand on the rock in the middle and save your game! Take a running jump off the rock. It may take several tries, but eventually she'll land safely in the water at the bottom of the falls. Have her swim to the southeast until she encounters an uphill path. Follow it until she reaches Jade's Magic Emporium. Head around to the right to the front door. This is the first and last time, that she'll need to get to the Magic Emporium in this manner. Enter and speak to Jade. She'll give you and Rynn more information about the Desert Lords, Jassad Duthane, and the Pain Golem, as well as offer a wide selection of magic. In fact she currently offers nearly every spell in the game. Fear is recommended as the first relatively inexpensive spell. When finished, head back down the hill and head north along the river. Swim when necessary until she reaches the gate into the stinky swamp. Have her head up the hill and return to town. Visit the Alchemist and spend the rest of her gold on health potions. Then return and speak to the guard nearby the gate and he'll grant her passage. Have her head on through and the screen will start to flash. Save your game status when prompted, then wait thirty seconds for the Shadowmire level to load.

As she continues along the stream bottom, she'll comment about the odoriferousness of her current environment. Have her head up on the bank to the right when you spot the torch on a pole. Follow the path lit by torches and speak to the man standing on the left near the bridge to begin the "Locate Semira, the missing girl from Surdana." side quest. There may or may not be a bag of gold sitting on a rock at the top of the falls. If it's there, you can have her get it by carefully jumping onto the rocks and then backing away from it. Save before just in case as it's very easy to go over the falls. Continue across the bridge. "I don't like the look of this" she says. You can't do anything about the closed gate on the right from this side (she will not be opening it from the other side of the door until exiting the area much later). Stand by the torch at the top of the path to the left and admire the insects darting around it for a moment, then continue down to the left until she reaches the upside down "Surdana" sign, which is pointing in the opposite direction. Go to the south first and kill everything she encounters. Get the 12 gold from the barrel on the left bank near the first group of Trogs.

As she moves north, she'll encounter the first of the Trog Mages. Have her snipe at them from behind a tree and she should be fine. They can also be taken out with a frontal melee attack, just be sure to keep her health up. Keep going north until she reaches a cave. She'll note that it stinks in here. Have her explore the inside of the cave to find five barrels, which should be smashed for 22 gold, and a Rusty Short Sword. Have her leave the cave and head roughly northwest from the sign post toward the platforms in the branches above. She can jump from the bank left of the tree trunk onto it and from there onto the lowest platform using a second quick jump. It may take her more than one attempt to get to the platform, but she can do it. Get a Health Elixir from the two barrels on the first platform. Face northeast and run and jump onto the second platform. She'll grab hold of the edge and pull herself up. She'll encounter the first of the exploding barrels here, which can be recognized by their conical shapes with rows of symbols near the top and bottom. Carefully smash the normal barrel next to it without setting off the exploding one. Have her jump northwest to the next platform and follow the walkway to two more barrels on the left, which can be smashed for 20 gold. Save your game here in case she misses, then have her run and jump to the one to the west. Then she's off to the next higher one to the northeast, which appears rather far away, but she can make it. Get 24 gold from the barrel in the rear, then climb the crates and jump west to the next platform and get a Life Potion from the chest. Now she has to get back down. It's a long way back to the swamp bottom, so look before she leaps and jump carefully for the best results. Face west and start back down. Jump northeast down onto the next lower platform and smash the barrel next to the first crate for 16 gold. Five more barrels beyond the next two crates, yield 18 gold. Head north down the short walkway and smash the three barrels for a Health Elixir. Jump the gap to the platform to the north and smash the battle, which is usually empty. Return to the walkway and drop down into the water.

ShadowmireHave her enter the cave and open the chest for some gold. There's a Half Mana potion lying out in the open just beyond. Get 48 gold from the three barrels on the left. Continue northward and take out the Trog who's guarding the entrance to the first cave on the left, then enter and pick up the Short Wood Bow from in front of the crates on the left. She can obtain 38 gold from the three barrels on the right, and a Health Elixir from the nearby chest. The remaining barrels will explode. Have her continue in a generally northerly direction until she reaches a small section of stone ruins. A couple of barrels are floating in the water nearby. They may also be broken open. She can jump inside the ruins to find another barrel. This would be a good spot to save your game's progress. Continue on past the ruins to the north. She can jump through the center into the interior and smash the lone barrel, but it's empty. Continue north and about six Trogs will engage her, then drop 58 gold. A Trog, guarding the nearby cave further along on the left bank, drops a Health Elixir when destroyed. There's another Trog in an alcove on the left, which can be snuck up upon and destroyed. The five barrels in here contain 44 gold and a Health Elixir. Head northwest to the next group of five barrels, which contains 46 gold and a Health Elixir. Exit the cave and return to the water and proceed north. A Trog is hiding behind a rock on the left as she nears a bridge overhead. A second one moves in from the northeast to attack. You can see a nasty looking swinging spiked log off in the distance and a hapless enemy, which may drop a sack of 10 gold, get hit by it and disappear downward. It looks dangerous and is. If she's hit by it while passing under, you'll be restoring the game. Wait for it to pass over and behind her head, then run through and roll a couple of times to get through safely.

Head forward and take out the nearby Trog for an Emerald (130 gold). Three arrow traps, which rise, shoot darts at her, and fall back into the water, will be encountered whichever way she proceeds. They can be dealt with using a melee weapon, but she'll take damage when they explode. Fortunately she can hide behind a tree or a tall stump and take them out with two arrows. Explore the entire area carefully before heading up the hill as there's a Trog Mage as well as four more arrow traps on the other side. Find the ladder to the raised wooden platform, then take out the two Trogs lurking in the area. Climb the ladder to get 6 gold from the barrels on the first platform. Jump to the next one to the west to grab an Invisibility Potion from the chest and 18 gold from the two barrels. Skip the two exploding barrels to the south! Jump southwest to the last platform and get 18 gold from the last barrel. Return to the ladder and head back down. Save your game progress, then send her up the hill to the east. She'll encounter some stone ruins a bit farther on and the foolish explorer, Nichols the Bold. Have her speak to him, then continue on her way to the west, as there's nothing to be had behind him. She'll reach a fork in the path after encountering a couple of Trogs, who'll give up 6 gold between them.

Take the downhill path for now. Two Trogs guard the approach to the bridge. Send her across the bridge and explore the cave. The non-exploding barrel on the right gives up 20 gold. Get another 20 gold from the three barrels farther on to the right. There's also a Health Elixir in the general area. The three barrels on the left contain 10 gold, while the nearby chest divulges 36 gold. She can now head back across the bridge and continue uphill to the east and then to the west. Save your game's progress before entering the cave. The first three Trogs give up 26 gold, while a Potion of Life can be grabbed from the chest on the right. Pick up another 8 gold from the four barrels on the right in the next room. Following that she'll encounter the entrance to a decrepit stone room. If you take her in through the first entrance, she's likely to drop through one of the many holes and you'll get to restart your game. Instead take her through the gap to the right of the entrance and it's smooth sailing ahead. Get a Life Potion from the two nearby barrels, then take out the Trog who rushes forward to its doom. Smash the two non-exploding barrels for 24 gold, then exit the cave and continue downhill, taking out a Trog on the way. A Trog Mage waits at the end of the bridge before her. Just have her run and jump across the bridge and take him out. Do try not to smash the two explodable barrels immediately behind him. Jump over the small fence beyond and grab the Full Mana potion sitting by the Idol. Return and head northeast down the hill. Take out the defenseless Trog with her bow before jumping to the platform. Get 12 gold from its carcass. Target the two Trogs up on the platform to the northeast with her bow and take them out. Save your game progress, then drop off of the platforms to the southwest and down into the water. Now head forward and take out the three arrow traps for the experience, then head northeast.
