Drakan: The Ancients' Gates (Sony) - Wartoks

Last modified on May 23rd, 2005

Various kinds of Wartoks can be found in most of the same areas as the Grull congregate in. They are larger and stronger, and slightly smarter than the Grull. Wartoks possess the power of speech as well.

Wartok TypeDescription
Axe
are the first Grull she'll encounter. They wield rather large iron axes. They are the weakest form of Wartok, which will charge at her and swing. Their swings are fairly well telegraphed and relatively easy to evade.
Shield
also carry a large iron axe and a shield on the left arm. They are a bit tougher to take out as the shield generally protects their left and front sides, so try to hit them on their axe arm or in the back.
Fire
carry no weapons, but cast flaming balls of fire at her. They'll swipe at her after she moves into melee range. Basically they're just larger vesions of the Fire Grull and are best dealt with from a distance with either her bow or a spell. Failing that, a zig zag approach to within striking distance will avoid most of the incoming fire attacks.
Snotmaw
is an enormous Wartok, who carrys a spiked shield and a huge cleaver. He's actually quite easy to destroy. See the Snotmaw's Lair section of the walk through for details on how to deal with him.
Disappearingis just a standard Axe Wartok with more hit points, except because he's wearing the Gauntlets of Invisibility, he'll shimmer and disappear every so often. Sometimes after reappearing, because of a programming glitch, his axe will remain invisible until she hits him. Note also that you can see a faint outline as he reappears and can have her standing right in front of him as he does so and be ready to attack as soon as he becomes vulnerable.
