Final Fantasy X (Squaresoft) - Cactuar Village Access

Last modified on August 30th, 2004

Use Tidus' command of the airship to return to Bikamel Island, which is actually the oasis at the entrance to the Sanubia Sands area. Follow the twisting trail past the second tent with a save sphere, then have Tidus head east along the boundary separating the desert from Cactuar Village, which is currently obscured by an impenetrable sandstorm. Easily visible along this ridge is a stone obelisk containing a Cactuar's likeness and ten circular slots. Send Tidus up to it and press the 'X' button to receive the first of nine clues relating to the whereabouts of the nine Cactuars, which have to be found. The locations are enumerated below, but are actually not overly difficult to ascertain on one's own. Once found, the "sneak up on the Cactuar before it turns around" mini-game will occur in some instances, whereas in others you will need to move Tidus around until he comes into contact with the or a Cactuar to trigger it. Tidus is given three chances of about ten to fifteen seconds each to sneak up on the Cactuar(s) without it(them) catching sight of him doing so. The Cactuars give an audible warning before turning around, which also appears in a text box on screen. Tidus must stop moving before they do or he'll be noticed. He can start moving again as soon as the Cactuar(s) begin(s) to turn back around. It's difficult (in some cases virtually impossible) to reach it(them) in time and some trials are harder to accomplish than others. There'll be a battle if he's successful, after which he receives the useful Cactuar's personal sphere. After the third attempt in which Tidus has failed to reach the Cactuar in time or was noticed moving, he receives a useless Sphere del Perdedor. He then needs to take whichever sphere he received back to the stone obelisk and insert it therein to receive the next clue. You may well have to fiddle with his placement to get the game to recognize the new sphere. The sandstorm will clear, allowing your group access to the Cactuar Village below, after Tidus has found and engaged all nine Cactuars. Most interesting in the Cactuar Village are the two chests. One contains the Mercury Sigil, while contents of the second chest vary by the number of personal Cactuar spheres obtained as follows:

0 - 2Potion
3 - 5Elixir
6 - 7Megalixir
