Once you gain control of Tidus after the opening introdructory cut scenes, head for the small group of people, most of whom are fans. Speak with the two young girls, who're standing to the right of this crowd. You'll now be able to rename Tidus. For the purposes of this walk through, it will remain Tidus. Go speak with the three small children holding blitzballs. After the "Can we have your autograph?" conversation, continue over to the center of the crowd of people.

After some more conversation, Tidus will say "Well, gotta go. Cheer for me", and he'll next be located upon a long heavily populated pathway, where an announcer can be heard talking about the game. You'll also be given some background about Tidus and his father, Jecht. Once Tidus arrives at the other side, you'll find him in a new area, where a large group of star-struck fans are blocking his further progress. Head through them and the watery door into the blitzball stadium. A long scut scene is now shown, where you learn about "Sin", the mysterious force, which is nearby and about to destroy Zanarkand.

Proceeding through the wreckage after the cataclysm, you'll regain control of Tidus. Continue downward until he encounters Auron, a family friend, who's been something of an enigma the past ten years. Have Tidus follow him out of the area, where the throngs of people are streaming in panic from the blitzball stadium, after which you again spy the hooded child and the world about Tidus suddenly freezes, while she imparts information. After things have returned to normal, continue along the path until he again meets Auron. You'll get to fight in your first battle after the scene "We Called It 'Sin'". These enemies are weak and easily defeated, and Auron gives Tidus a Longsword, which used to belong to Jecht. The Long Sword is automatically equipped. Battle through the groups of Sinscales until they get to where the Sinspawn crashes into the building, unleashing more Sinscale. Continue fighting along the way to where Sinspawn falls to the ground, where Tidus and Auron must now fight it!

| Demi - Causes magical Gravity based damage upon all characters which depletes current Hit Points by 25%. | |||
| Strategy | |||
| Your characters can't die in this battle because Sinspawn Ammes will only cast Demi for the duration of battle, which reduces your characters' Hit Points by 25% each time, but can never reduce them past one. So never heal! Just focus on physically attacking during the battle. A tutorial, which explains what Overdrives are is presented. You should next note that Auron's Overdrive gauge is full. Press the 'Left' directional button to access Subcommand Menu two, where you can now choose "Bushido". Once initiated, try to press the indicated button sequence within the allotted time. The more of them you can do, the stronger the attack, he'll perform (with the best attack reserved for all buttons pushed within the specified time limit). Note that if you mess up on any button, you get to start the whole combination over again. Auron's Overdrive attack will destroy the six Sinscales, accompanying Sinspawn Ammes. Tidus' Overdrive is available next. You have to cause a moving cursor to stop in the middle of the bar, by pressing the 'X' button at the opportune moment, to achieve the best damage with his Spiral Cut Swordplay skill. The battle ends when all of its tentacles are destroyed! | |||
Run past the battle wreckage, following the battle, and save your game at the save sphere here. They always fully replenish your party's Hit Points and Magic Points whether you save or not. Just save your game for now. Later in the game, more capabilities are added. Continue forward to greet even more swarms of those annoying Sinscales. After killing a few, Auron points out a machine hanging over the edge. Just attack it, and try to refrain from healing, until it falls over the edge causing the entire bridge to explode, because doing so will end the battle. Just watch the ensuing cut scenes. You regain control of Tidus after being sucked up into Sin. Tidus is now floating in a mysterious force field. Swim over to where a figure shaped like Tidus' father appears, to trigger a cut scene, where an older Tidus speaks while looking at his younger version. When this concludes, your party will have arrived at the entrance to Baaj Temple.
