Generation One

1. Simon¹ Gowdy married Martha Cox on 6 October 1712 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts; Married by Rev. Cotton Mather.¹

Because of his Presbyterian faith and the contemporary emigration from Ireland he was supposedly of Scotch-Irish descent.² He emigrated say 1710 to Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.² He was a Presbyterian.²

The four known children of Simon¹ Gowdy and Martha Cox were as follows:

• + 2. i. James² Gowdy, born before 1720 in Massachusetts; married Mary Hutchinson.

• + 3. ii. Hill Gowdy, born circa 1720 in Massachusetts; married Sarah Swain.

• 4. iii. Martha Gowdy married Berton Denison on 30 March 1719 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

  Martha Gowdy and Berton Denison were married by the Rev. John Webb, a Presbyterian minister.

• 5. iv. Jane Gowdy married N.N. [_____] on 5 March 1722/23 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts.

  Jane Gowdy and N.N. [_____] were married by Rev. Samuel Checkley, a Presbyterian minister.
