What happens when you stick a retired NASA mathematician, a Natural History Museum educator, an actress and other disparate personalities in the same room?
Art, of course.
The South Broadway Cultural Center hosts aldizorontophoskyphorniostikos, beauty in all things, June 2 thru July 1, 2004, in the gallery.
Featuring works by nine New Mexico artists.
aldizorontophoskyphorniostikos? Huh?
Exactly. The artists featured at the exhibit hope to convey an understanding of the accidents in life, small and large. What can be learned from them, what they mean in the larger context of day to day existence.
Jumping into the unknown or falling into it gives the artist the perception of walking between the worlds of understanding and chaos.
Artists presenting works are Albuquerque's quirky Michael VeSeart, known for his quixotic art cars, bowling ball sculptures and the telephone pole that stands outside his house. The pole is adored with hundreds of women's shoes. Also Mariah Williamson, a University of New Mexico student, Lee H. Skinner, the NASA mathematician, Marcia Tippit, actress and director, Matt Celeskey, dinosaur painter, Roxanne Witt, abstract painter, Kim Aeby, theater design, Christina Ellison, artist of many media, and Rush Dudley, mixed media artist.
The show will also feature an installation that the public will be encouraged to manipulate and rename. An ongoing accident of perceptions, if you will.
