The Paperless
Factory® System and ISO 9000
The Paperless
Factory® System supports compliance with many of the items
of the ISO 9000 international series of standards for quality
assurance. Examples of functions which directly support
compliance with ISO 9000 standards are: (electronically)
documented routings; assurance that all process operations are
performed and that exceptions are documented; maintenance of a
complete process history, with noted exceptions to the planned
build included; documented test and inspection results; assurance
that all repair operations are performed before failed parts are
processed at a subsequent operation; assurance that each
operation in a process is performed only by those individuals who
are qualified to perform the function.
Summary of Key Benefits
The following benefits of the Reveille
Paperless Factory® System contribute to more competitive
manufacturing.
- The system increases control of factory
resources and processes to decrease cost and lead time
and to increase quality and flexibility.
- The system bridges the gap between MRP II
systems, engineering systems, general business systems,
and the automated devices in the factory.
- The system protects investments in and
improves the operation of existing systems (MRP II, for
example) through the flexibility of integration with or
interface to these systems with timely feedback of
factory resource and processing status and trends.
- The system models and supports control of
any kind of manufacturing process through the flexibility
of the knowledge base of resources and rules.
- The system supports customer order, work
order and "orderless" environments
- The system supports multiple types of
processes and any mix of products and production volumes
in a single facility.
- The system supports advanced manufacturing
concepts and technologies of CIM, just-in-time, automated
scanning, computer controlled process, and storage and
material handling equipment.
- The system minimizes the amount of data
which must be entered or processed by workers and
increases the accuracy, consistency and completeness of
information through automation and integration of the
information flow with the resource control and process
flows.
- The system optimizes the use of all
resources (people, material, tools, equipment,
information) through on-line direction, monitoring and
adaptive feedback control of the resources and processes.
- The system increases quality by improving
production yields and reduces rework and scrap.
- The system provides complete hierarchical
traceability to the lowest level of granularity of
product and process.
- The system reduces inventories of
component material, parts and tools significantly from
receiving through shipping.
- The system reduces paperwork while
providing more relevant information.
- The system reduces indirect labor through
increased location and status visibility of work units,
resources and processes, through decreased data entry and
paperwork, and through the elimination of the need for
staging, kitting, and order splitting.
- The system decreases lead time through the
reduction in inventories, the decrease in queue lengths,
and increased status visibility.
- The system improves planning and
scheduling through increased visibility and flexibility
(response to change in product or process).
