A unique Alaskan experience fishing the Kobuk River with Raymond Woods, an Inupiaq Eskimo who, with his family, will share their cultural lifestyle. Located 10 miles from America's largest wilderness park, Gates of the Arctic, above the Arctic Circle, the remote camp is accessible exclusively to the local Native people and their guests.
Enjoy fishing for Arctic grayling, sheefish, chum salmon and northern pike. Our fishing season is from August 1 through September 15. Plan on traveling to Shungnak from Kotzebue or Fairbanks, Alaska. Flights available from Kotzebue four times daily, and from Fairbanks once daily. After your arrival in Shungnak, you'll enjoy a two hour boat ride to camp.
Raymond grew up in the Kobuk River area, and has fished and hunted throughout the river and it's tributaries. A twenty year National Guard veteran, Raymond has been trained in wilderness survival and first aid techniques.
Enjoy the beauty of the river as you explore the history of the land and the people. You'll have the unique opportunity to get to know "The True Last Frontier", unspoiled. Hike the foothills of the Brooks Range, see the wildlife as caribou migrate, bears feed on  the salmon in preparation for winter, moose and the Bald Eagle browse. Another world where you can slow down, to listen and to learn.
