Biography Written by: Scott Adams, WNUA-Chicago There is a place, somewhere between the passionate inspiration of John Coltrane's "Bahia" and Dizzy Gillespie's years as the flag bearer for Latin Jazz, where you'll find the essence of Rob Ryndak's music. It is a potpourri of style and influences, shaped by the decades-long marriage of jazz with the tropics and Ryndak's own curious rise to musicianship. Several years ago, the horn lines and the rhythmic cadence found on this album where about as far removed from Rob's life as, say, a monastery is from a jazz club, which is exactly where Ryndak honed the tools of his craft. As a member of the Franciscan Religious Order he combined his love of music with his studies for priesthood. Music turned out to be his calling and after four years, he bade farewell to a life of the cloth, exchanging his collar for a musical staff. So for Ryndak the word "spiritual" turned out to be a verb, not a noun. This thinking is evident throughout Boundless. The sense that this musician has quietly grown to become a new voice in the Chicago jazz scene comes quickly after just a few minutes, reaffirming itself as the tracks present themselves. "I'm past the point of needing to have the spotlight constantly shining on me. I prefer to lay out and let the music take care of itself. I look for other musicians to work with who share this vision." Rob Ryndak is a thinker's musician. His music is the result of inner growth and the experience culled from life's lessons. One of the most difficult? A few years ago, he lost his first wife Barbara to breast cancer. Growth teaches us that from conflict comes resolution. "On my first recording, Moving Forward, I included "Barb" as a musical tribute to her memory. A little over four years ago, I remarried to Jadey, and it has brought to me a sense of fulfillment and closure to that part of my life, which was celebrated with the song "Jade" on the Boundless CD." "Piano Interlude for Clare" from his new release provides us with an intimate portrait of Rob at this stage in his life. Rob was recently blessed with fatherhood, and this piece carries all of the sustained expectation that the anticipation of it brings. Rob Ryndak has chosen Stay With It as the name of this new recording, perhaps to help settle us into this new age, perhaps to illustrate a reaffirmation to the music he loves to create. This collection bears the fruit of seeds planted during his Boundless sessions- a satisfying marriage of contemporary jazz and Latin style that serves to illustrate the musical perspective of an emerging talent.
