President's Message

Dear Colleagues,

How are you doing with your Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza shopping? Have we ever got a deal for you!! Where else can you get 170 personalized gifts for just $10.00?? AORN has Operation Potluck cookbooks available for sale now. The cookbooks include 170 recipes for the yummiest foods for just $10.00 apiece. You should be able to pick up your copies in late November/early December. My gift list includes the obvious: our moms, grandmas, sisters, sisters-in-law, daughters, daughters-in-law, nieces, friends, hairdressers/barbers, the mailman, paper boy, etc, etc.. We also have many co-workers, doctors, etc., to sell the books to! We have only ordered 300 books. Joan Bernier says you may call her at (714) 995-3815 (home) or (562) 622-4121 (work) to reserve books and make arrangements to collect them.

Your Board is currently working on the Bylaws revisions. We have found numerous inconsistencies to correct and if you have any ideas for improvement, please let any of us know. You will find a list of all your officers in this newsletter.

Our holiday get-together is December 12 at Lois Zumberge’s home and provides social networking as well as an opportunity to sample some of those scrumptious recipes from Operation Potluck. We are asking you to bring either an appetizer, main dish, side dish or dessert. Also bring a gift of non-perishable foods which we will share with those in need. Directions are included in this newsletter.

Our Program Committee has planned great presentations for our regular meeting. When you get your 2001 calendar, (2001 already?!?), please be sure to write in all of our meetings: January, March, May and July (our installation dinner). We still give one free CEU for each presentation. The September program, Adding Life to Your Years, was presented by Dr. Nick Thanos. He gave us great ideas about life-style and nutritional changes anyone can make which will improve vigor and healthfulness.

In preparation for national AORN Congress, our Nominating Committee is preparing a slate of candidates to serve our chapter as delegates. Two automatic delegates will be your president-elect, Dorothy Lasensky and your president, yours truly.

We are looking forward to meeting you at our regular meetings. You’ll find a map in this newsletter. Please attend. We really need each other for ideas and inspiration. See you soon.
