CALPERS-California Public
Employees’ Retirement System
CALPERS is the largest public pension system in the nation, with more than
$155 billion in assets. It has been very active in many corporate responsibility
issues.
Calvert Group
Calvert is one of the nation's
premiere socially responsible investment funds.
Domini Social Investments
One of the leaders in socially
responsible investing, Domini Social Investments is involved three important
areas: Screening, Shareholder Activism and Community Development. Domini is
also setting a precedent for other funds by posting its proxy voting record
on its website.
Council of Institutional Investors
This website has reports on what
initiatives were taken by corporations when shareholders voted in a majority
for resolutions, and also has news on what actions are being taken by institutional

Ethical Investing
This site is "dedicated

for the potential ethical investor, looking for guidance on what ethical investing

Greenmoney
Sort of a one-stop website with information about socially responsible investing
and links to other organizations that promote SRI and corporate responsibility.
ICCR
Interfaith Center on CorporateResponsibility is a leader of the corporate
social responsibility movement. ICCR's membership is an association of 275
Protestant, Roman Catholic and Jewish institutional investors, including national
denominations, religious communities, pension funds, endowments, hospital
corporations, economic development funds and publishing companies. ICCR and
its members press companies to be socially and environmentally responsible.

This is an online paper published
by the Pennsylvania Social Action Forum, dealing with Church investments and
their theology, and alternative investments, circa 1996.

Co. (KLD)
According to their website, "KLD is the leading provider of social research
for institutional investors. KLD serves institutional clients who wish to

Trillium Asset
Management
Known until recently as Franklin Research and Development, Trillium is a socially
responsible investment advisor. This site has the electronic version of their
excellent newsletter, Investing for a Better World, which features
news about socially responsible investing, company profiles, and timely issues.
Vantage Investment
Advisors
This fund manager has promoted socially responsible investing since 1987.
The site includes a section on SRI and (posted 7/6/99) an article on how to
invest with your values.

Executive Pay-watch
Good site on executive compensation,
but a little dated. They have a nifty feature that compares your pay to that
of the average CEO, but the answer is in 1994 dollars. A good site for examining
the objections to outlandish executive pay.

Corporate
Watch
A watchdog Web site that monitors activities of transnational corporations
and their social, ecological, and economic impacts. The site, a joint project
of the Transnational Resource and Action Center and the Institute for Global
Communications, also includes a manual on how to research corporations, news
and analysis about transnationals, and links to hundreds of related sites.

We use this site to get brief profiles on companies and specific information
quickly, such as their addresses and current top executives.

Center (IRRC)
IRRC is one of the foremost organizations that monitor corporate responsiblity
in a variety of different issues. This website includes reports on various
companies in relation to the issues.
Northwest Corporate
Accountability Project
Explains what shareholder resolutions are, how to file for them, how to invest
in mutual funds, etc. also has links for other corporate social responsibility
related sites. Information is circa 1997.
Securities &
Exchange Commission
This is the official site of the SEC, and includes some very useful information.
We use it to look up company 10-K reports, which often give more information
than the company annual report.
Student Alliance to Reform
Corporations (STARC)
STARC is "a grassroots student movement seeking to stop corporations'
abuses of power, and to make corporations more socially and environmentally
responsible…" They hope to change the way universities invest.

Alternative Investment Information
Here is a list of some institutions that allow you to invest in alternatives to the stock markets, such as neighborhoods, developing countries, housing initiatives etc. Though they give a lower rate of return, your money will go directly to the communities the investment serves, and allow people access to financial credit that cannot get it through regular lending institutions.

ERF publishes Rachel's Environmental and Health Weekly, which is a source
of information on all kinds of environmental topics, including genetic engineering.

Provides information on the science and projected impacts of climate change,

opportunities for individuals to become involved, recent stories in the press,
and upcoming conferences.
Global Climate Coalition
This site is operated by a coalition of business interests and corporations
that are sceptical of the claims made by scientists about climate change.
This is a good site to get industry's take on the climate change issue.

Panel on Climate Change
Provides the 1995 IPCC Second Assessment Report, related information on the
findings of the three IPCC Working Groups, projected climate impacts, a list
of available reports, and press releases.

Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
Provides information on the science of climate change, the Climate Convention,
and information pertaining to specific countries, technologies, and financial

Concerned Scientists
The Union of Concerned Scientists works to ensure that all people have clean
air and energy, as well as safe and sufficient food.

Ag Biotech InfoNet
Ag BioTech InfoNet covers all aspects of the application of biotechnology
and genetic engineering in agricultural production and food processing and
marketing. Our focus is on scientific reports and findings and technical analysis,
although the page also covers emerging issues of widespread interest, developments
in the policy arena, and major media coverage.
Alliance for Bio-Integrity
This website has information on Genetically Modified foods and their perceived
health dangers, as well as an examination of the labeling question, and information
on a lawsuit filed by religious leaders and scientists against the US Food
and Drug Administration.
Campaign to Ban Genetically
Engineered Foods
Contains a number of news articles and links about genetically altered foods,
mostly from a European perspective where the debate is much more vocal than
in the U.S.
Campaign for Food Safety
A primarily grassroots, clearing house that regularly updates its website
with recent press clippings and news reports regarding genetic engineering.
It also has a section labeled Monsantowatch for those interested in monitoring
the biotech behemoth.

Alimentarius Commission
The website for Codex, the international body that drafts international regulations
on food.

Union Food Safety Page
Variety of press releases and articles on various aspects of food safety,
including genetic engineering, irradiation and bovine growth hormone.
Council for Responsible
Genetics
The central principles of CRG are: 1) The public must have access to clear
and understandable information on technological innovations; 2) The public
must be able to participate in public and private decision-making concerning
technological developments and their implementation; 3) New technologies must
meet social needs; 4) Problems rooted in poverty, racism and other forms of
inequality cannot be remedied by technology alone.
Friends of the Earth - Safer
Food, Safer Farms Campaign
This website has information on genetic engineering. We are told that by the
end of this month, FoE hopes to have the names and addresses of the 100 largest
food companies available on their website so that people can write to their
favorite popcorn, potato chip or cereal producer requesting that it go GE
Free.
GreenPeace
One of the heavyweight environmental groups has been very effective as one
of the leaders against genetic modification in Europe, and scored a recent
victory in Gerber Foods and Heinz Corp. decisions to keep GM materials out
of their baby foods.
International Food Information Council
IFIC is supported primarily by the broad-based food, beverage and agricultural
industries, and this page is a sample of pro-genetic food modification quotes
from various sources.
The International Forum on
Food and Agriculture (IFA)
Key issues, such as global warming, trouble in the Middle East, trade conflicts,
and cancer are linked to how we grow, process, market, consume, and dispose
of food.
And the impacts are global. Converting land in Mexico that once grew food
for local consumption into megafarms for vegetable exports affects the ecological
and the social conditions around the planet. The International Forum on Food
and Agriculture (IFA) was created to address these global concerns.
