Welcome to the Unofficial Saint Mary CYO Basketball Site.

Saint Mary Elementary is a member of the Catholic Youth Organization of Detroit and plays various local-area member schools with their athletic program.  I was a student there and started my involvement with sports in Grade 6 with the basketball team.  After the athletic department went a period of hiatus in the early and mid 1990's, basketball was reintroduced in 1997.  I spent five years assisting the program and after a four year absence in 2002, I returned once again in 2006.  I am grateful to have these opportunities to give back to the school where I started my career. 

I am especially pleased that I celebrated my 1500th career game at a St. Mary basketball game on January 25th, 2009.

Our 2009-10 home venue will be the cozy confines of St. James.

2009-02-28: The Fighting Irish Boys dropped their playoff game, 48-22, to a tough St. Thecla #1 team. The Boys finish the season with a 7-7 record.

2009-02-24: The Fighting Irish dropped all three of their exhibition games against St. Germaine. The JV Girls lost 28-9. The JV Boys lost 28-25 despite their late rally. And, the Varsity Boys lost, 30-21. The JV teams now conclude their seasons. Both Varsity Teams now advance to the Playoffs with the Girls playing St. Paul #1 at Our Lady of Refuge and the Boys playing St. Thecla #1 at De La Salle High. Both games are at 2:30 pm.

2009-02-21: While competing at LaSalette is always tough, the JV Girls were able to steal a 12-6 victory from their hosts to finish the league season 3-5. The remaining teams did not fare as well as the JV Girls (52-9), JV Boys (29-11), and Varsity Boys (46-12) all suffered defeat. The Irish have three home games this coming Tuesday against St. Germaine. Also, both varsity teams will be competing in the CYO Playoffs, with initial pairings to be announced this Tuesday as well.

2009-02-15: St. Mary closed their home schedule with just one win on the day. The JV Girls played tough, but fell 26-9 to St. Thecla #2. Shrine Academy defeated the Varsity Girls, 31-21. The JV Boys started slow and lost to St. Dennis #1, 26-12. The Varsity Boys capped the day with their seventh win, 32-16, over St. Dennis. All teams wrap up the regular season at LaSalette this Saturday.
Award: The JV Girls will be receiving the Sportsmanship Award for their division. Congratulations, ladies.

2009-02-13: The Varsity Boys dropped a 44-21 decision to a very good St. Valentine squad tonight. The loss gives the team their first two game losing streak of the season. All teams are in action at home this Sunday.
