October 29, 2009: The 8th grade team won their final game of the season in an overtime thriller. Despite shooting 8 of 58 (14%) for the game, the Lady Hawks were able to force overtime and scored a total of six points after offensive rebounds to defeat the Cranbrook Cranes, 16-14 in overtime. The win gives the 8th grade team a final record of 5 wins, 6 losses, and a tie. Congratulations to both teams who worked hard all season.
October 27, 2009: The Lady Hawks had a tough day at Berkshire, losing both games. The 7th grade team used a free throw with time expired to force overtime, but fell by a point, 19-18, to finish the season at 10-1 (9-1 Division). The 8th grade team, despite being shorthanded and trailing 14-2 at one point, rallied back in the second half, but could not get the game-tying shot to score as they lost, 20-18. The 8th grade team is 4-6-1 (4-5-1 Division) and concludes its season Thursday when they host Cranbrook.
October 26, 2009: The Lady Hawks split their games against intra-district rival Anderson today. The 7th graders used incredible defense to win, 16-2, and to go 10-0 (9-0 Division) on the season and sweep the series from the visiting Vikings. The 8th grade team led at halftime, but the Vikings seemed to have smooth sailing in the second half and defeated Norup, 26-12, to sweep the 8th grade series. The 8th grade team is now 4-5-1 (4-4-1). Both teams visit Berkshire tomorrow for their last road game of the season.
October 20, 2009: The Lady Hawks swept a pair of games at Ferndale this afternoon. The 7th grade team appeared to be on the ropes, trailing 14-1 in the fourth period, before rallying to defeat Ferndale, 17-16. The win improves the 7th grade team to 9-0 (8-0 COMSAC Div 1). The 8th grade team also held on to win, 22-17, thanks to a 6-0 advantage in points off the bench. The 8th grade team is now 4-4-1 (4-3-1).
October 15, 2009: The Lady Hawks swept their games at Hazel Park this afternoon. The 7th grade team improved to 8-0 (7-0 COMSAC D-1) with their 9-7 win where made shots were at a premium and defense was the story of the day. The 8th grade team also won to improve their record to 3-4-1 (3-3-1) with a 19-12 win that avenges their earlier tie to the Patriots. Both teams visit Ferndale next Tuesday.
