Watching For The Night

by Shannon L. Story

As the day beds down for slumber,
I watch the sky in wonder.

Pinks and reds and azure blues,
mixing together in watercolor hues.

The clouds become a canvas of light,
spreading their glow to the approaching night.

The whip-poor-will sings to the rising moon,
as a falling star dashes above the dunes.

And as the animals settle down for the night,
I bid farewell until the coming light.
