President's LetterHello Everyone!
I hope all of you had a great time at John Nicholson’s home, and also at David Andrews’ place. Didn’t they both have some beautiful fish? All enjoyed John’s demonstration of how to drill a hole in a tank, without breaking it.
The May TCA meeting will be at the home of Mike and Diane Stewart in DeSoto. Mike and Diane are busy preparing the awards for our 20th Anniversary Show, but they are taking a little time off to host our meeting. Thanks bunches, guys!
TCA’s 20-year anniversary celebration is coming together well. Confirmed speakers are Jack Wattley, John Farrell Kuhns, Wayne Leibel, Ad Konings and Toby Veall! Toby owns the collecting station in Zambia on Lake Tanganyika known as Rift Valley Tropicals, so he will have first-hand knowledge of just exactly how our cichlids get from the lake to our tanks. We are very fortunate to have such a list of world-class speakers coming to Texas!
Flyers are available – contact Coleen Ullman if you need some to hand out. Flyers were also mailed to all former TCA members, so hopefully we can have a big reunion over the weekend. If you have a computer, convention information is also available on TCA’s website.
We are working on a collage of photos and articles to highlight TCA’s history. If you have any ideas, suggestions, old TCA stuff, or pictures, please contact any board member or me. We want to make this a great celebration, and all help will be appreciated!!!
Also, don’t forget to bring items for the silent auction to the May meeting. Diane Stewart, the Silent Auction Chairman, will gladly find a place to store all the “fish stuff” you haul to her house until it’s time to sell it. Depending on the number of donations, we may have a silent auction on Saturday as well as Sunday.
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
Kathy
Editor’s Note: The President’s Letter was prepared in absentia as President Kathy Stearns was out of town due to family medical problems.
Webmaster's note: Since this was written, Toby Veall has cancelled his trip to the U.S. due to a scheduling conflict with the Discovery Channel, who will be taping a show about his collection station on Lake Tanganyika. Pam Chin has gratiously volunteered to take his place and talk about Tanganyikan Cichlids. If I find out when the Discovery Channel airs the show filmed at Toby's, I'll post it in the upcoming events section. If you find out when it will air, please email me.
