Multiple Levels of Certification are planned. Tests being reviewed and developed include vendor specific Linux distributions: Caldera, Debian, TurboLinux, Red Hat, Slackware and SuSe. Additional Examinations are planned to include: Advanced, Internals, Windows Integration, Internet Servers, Database Servers, Security Firewalls and Encryption, and Kernel Drivers and packages.
No training programs have been designed by LPI for examination preparation.

LPI-101 Test covers: Hardware & Architecture, GNU and Unix Commands, Linux Kernel, Text Editing, Processing, Printing, Documentation, Shells, Shell Scriptng, Programming, Network Fundamentals, Network Services and Security.
LPI-102 Test covers: Linux Installation and Package Management, Devices, Linux File Systems, Filesystem Hierarchy Standard, Boot, Initialization, Shutdown, Run Levels, X Windows, and Administrative Tasks.
