| The Gunslinger - Revised
Version
Our introduction to Roland Deschain of Gilead and his
pursuit of the man in black is a confusing contradiction. Is he
still honorable or has his quest for the tower tainted him?
|
CD Reading by George Guidall
The original was read by Stephen King but George Guidall uses voices
that give the characters an added depth.
|
|
Drawing of the Three
Roland struggles to keep alive and fulfill his kah
while moving toward the beam and the Dark Tower. He draws
his three kah mates (kah tet) and persuades them to continue on his
quest.
|
CD Reading by Frank Muller
Frank Muller is my favorite and his voice to me came to be the voice
of Roland. And his Detta voice made chills run down my back every
time she appears.
|
|
The Wastelands
The kah tet ventures into Lud and meet Blaine the
mono. This is a distrubing story and except for the old people at
River Crossing, it seems the whole world that has not "moved on," has gone
mad.
|
CD Reading by Frank Muller
And "our friends" Gasher and Tick Tock really are
frightening as read by Frank Muller.
|
|
Wizard and Glass
This is probably my favorite story. I loved
learning about Cuthbert, Alain and Roland's love Susan. Even
though Mejas seems like an evil town, the friends stay true and the
story is both sad and wonderful.
|
CD Reading by Frank Muller
Once again we are transported to Roland's world through the talented
reading of Frank Muller. He seems especially skilled with his
creepy Rea voice but he also is able to convey the feeling of a very
young, romantic Roland of Gilead and tells his love story with youthful
charm.

|
Wolves of the Calla
Wolves has the magic of "Wizard" and is probably my second
favorite. There is a sense that the kah-tet will survive. The story is suspenseful and just keeps building
to the final battle with the wolves. Excellent.
|
CD Reading by George Guidall
Very good reading and all the voices for the individual residents of
the Calla were so distinct that one can easily remember who is speaking
by the tone of voice.
|
|
Song of Susannah
This was the most difficult story to hear. And
it is very, very dark and gives one the feeling of impending
doom. Many
good moments but I was not pleased with the cliff hanger.
|
CD Reading by George Guidall
Good reading with difficult material. Roland sounded very tired
but still ready to do battle to save the Tower.
|
| The Dark Tower -
Finally, we hear the resolution of the cliff hanger and
the kah-tet begins to move toward the tower and the final battle to save
the rose. I was thrilled at the ending of Roland's quest and felt
that Stephen King did justice to all of his characters. Very
satisfying! I am going to begin again with the
"Gunslinger."

CD Reading by George Guidall
Very excellent reading. I could not stop listening as it seemed a
magical journey and I wanted to hear all of it very well.
