(A tragic tale of unfulfilled love, passion, revenge and death, set in southern Italy midst the forest and streams of  Calabria.  Jacques plays a young man who falls in love with a beautiful stranger played by Silvana Mangano, and finds himself competing with his father for her affections.  Well acted and Jacques is very good in a more contemporary type film.  Black & white dubbed in English.  )
9. Lettera all'Alba, Una (1949).... Mario Maggi
10. Falco rosso, Il (1949) .... Raniero d'Atri
.....aka The Red Falcon (1949)

(Extremely rare costume adventure.  In Italy, during the Norman takeover, a tyrant has usurped the countryside, reigning in terror and cruelty.  A young duke, son of the legitimate ruler, gathers his forces and sets out to crush the tyrant.  He becomes known as "The Red Falcon."  This film reveals a delightful display of Jacques myriad range of talents.  I enjoyed it very much.  Black & white, in Italian )

... aka Sky Is Red, The (1949)
12. Golden Salamander, The (1950) .... Max
(A confused young man, Jacques, is deeply involved with a greedy gang of gun smugglers.  His sister's new boyfriend advises him to extricate himself from a dangerous situation.  This proves to be not a good idea.  Trevor Howard plays a romantic lead in this very serious drama.  I think it is Jacques' own voice in this English language, black & white movie.)

... aka Hearts at Sea (1950)
14. Barriera della legge, La (1950)

(A young woman falls in love with a police lieutenant, Jacques, trying to break up a gang of smugglers and counterfeiters in which her brother is a member. Excellent example of a brother who will not accept responsibility for his own actions.  Dubbed, black & white film.  Enjoyed it very much.)

100 Years of Love (1954)
34. Jump Into Hell (1955) (as Jack Sernas) .... Capt. Guy Bertrand
(Tale of French war against the Communists in Vietnam at Dien Bien Phu.  Jacques portrays Bertrand in what becomes a sadly tragic story for men who battled heroically to the death.  He is witness to their end but survives.  Set before the American entrance into the Vietnam quagmire.  Black & white not dubbed, Jacques using his own lightly accented English)
35. Helen of Troy (1956) (as Jack Sernas) .... Paris,  Rossana Podesta....Helen
(Homer's "Iliad" with a strong, handsome and heroic Paris.  Quality film made in Italy with International cast of thousands.  Released in 1956 and re-mastered in 2004 capturing the beauty and elegance of the landscape and epic story of tragic lovers doomed to having only a fleeting moment in time together.  Excellent movie.  Very highly recommended)

... aka Venus of Cheronea, The (1958)
46. Pia de' Tolomei (1958)
... aka Pia of Ptolemy (1958) ...Duccio

(Set during Italian Renaissance with two powerful families fighting for power in Sienna.  The lovers Duccio & Pia are caught in the middle.  Impressive duel between the dashing Duccio and evil Nello.  Even on second viewing, the ending leaves a question, did she or didn't she?  Jacques' voice is again poorly dubbed in English, In Color)
47. Prima notte, La (1959) .... Bob Lebel
... aka Venetian Honeymoon (1959)
48. Nel segno di Roma (1959) .... Juliano
... aka Sign of Rome (1959)
... aka Sign of the Gladiator (1959) (USA)

(Peplum story of a Roman Consul trying to convince the Palmirans that Rome does not seek war with them.  Complex plot which unites Jacques as Juliano, whose thankless job it is to free his friend from imprisonment only to end up a prisoner himself, with future co-stars from "Queen of the Tartars."  The majestic Zenobia is played by Anita Ekberg who is a worthy opponent for the Roman forces.  Several good scenes showing Jacques' skills with a sword, color and dubbed in English)
49. Notti di Lucrezia Borgia, Le (1959) .... Frederico
... aka Nights of Lucretia Borgia, The (1960) (USA)
(Swashbuckling Jacques is a real delight in this film.  The version I acquired is dubbed in Spanish but I could detect a few things about the story.  The girl Frederico loves is kidnapped and he has to rescue her several times.  He is so happy go lucky in this role, singing and laughing and loving.  I was not sure what evil Lucretia and her brother intended but it was worth watching just to see Jacques as a beautiful leading man again.  In faded color)
50. Mondo dei miracoli, Il (1959) .... Marco Valenti
... aka World of Miracles (1959)
51. Dolce vita, La (1960) .... Matinee Idol
(Frederico Fellini film of the Sweet Life in Rome circa 1960's with Anita Ekberg and Marcello Mastroianni.   After the tragic death of a friend,  journalist  Marcello engages in meaningless pleasure with a group of  partygoers to bring a finale to this rather depressing film.  It reminds me of the old song by Peggy Lee "Is that all there Is?  Then lets keep dancing, break out the booze and have a ball, if that's all there is."   Jacques participates in the party at the end of the film , seems to be having fun and is very cute.  Black & white, Italian with English subtitles.)
52. Salambò (1960) .... Mathos
... aka Loves of Salammbo, The (1962) (USA)
(Low budget sword and sandal of conflict between Carthage and barbarians, lead by Mathos.  Jacques seems to be having some fun pursuing Salammbo and is allowed to behave outrageously.  American version seems to have parts excluded and makes it more difficult to understand.  Black and white, dubbed in English, although Jacques may have dubbed his own voice.)
53. Culpables (1960).... Emilio
54. Altair (1960)
... aka Altair, primo amore (1960) (Italy)
55. Amore a Roma, Un (1960) .... Tony Meneghini
... aka Love in Rome (1960)
(This film feels like a sequel to "La Dolce" with Jacques as the matinee idol Tony.  He is a secondary character and shows up in only a couple of scenes, as an acting friend to Anna, the heroine.  The story is of an Italian playboy, Marcello, who meets a free spirited girl and falls in love? or lust?  As he seems to becoming more serious about her, some of his male friends begin teasing him and he eventually reverts to his cold hearted ways.  I could not find any reviews to determine what subtle nuances I had missed.  It was very enjoyable to see Rome in the 60's with Jacques looking adorable and obviously having great fun.  Black & white in Italian with Greek subtitles)
56. Regina dei tartari, La (1961) .... Malok
... aka Queen of the Tartars, The (1961)

(Italian sword & sandal.  Jacques playing the leader of a Barbarian tribe who falls in love with Tania, Queen of the Tartars and tries to convince her that he should rule their tribes.  Another interesting costume for Jacques but all the costumes are very imaginative.  I watched it a second time and really liked it.  Color and dubbed.)
57. Romolo e Remo (1961) .... Curtius
... aka
Duel of the Titans (1963) (USA)
(The legendary founders of Rome played by Steve Reeves and Gordon Scott is an action packed story.  Well made film with good battle scenes and a volcanic eruption that was most impressive.  It was a change of pace to see Jacques' character as a coward who doesn't participate in any hand to hand combat and dies ignominiously before the final battle between the Sabines and the future Romans.  Good dubbing and enjoyable.  Color.)
58. Orazi e curiazi (1961) .... Marcus
... aka Duel of the Champions (1964) (USA)
(War between Rome and Alba will be settled in a final confrontation of three brothers from each nation in a fight to the death.  One of the last films of Alan Ladd.  Jacques has small supporting role but looks decidedly gorgeous.  Low budget battle scenes were disappointing but good costumes.  On second viewing, I liked it better)
59. Maciste contro il vampiro (1961) .... Kurtik
 ... aka
Goliath and the Vampires (1964) (USA)
(Gordon Scott playing Goliath in Italian sword and sandal by Dino De Laurentis, special effects very early 60's.  Jacques plays a deposed ruler with his blue men to help fight the monster, a vampire living on human blood, assisted by Goliath. Interesting costume for Jacques in this one.  Color and dubbed.)
60. Parlez-moi d'amour (1961) (France)
... aka Speak to me of Love (1961)....Jefferson Thompson

(Lighthearted, slapstick comedy with singing star Dailda. Jacques is cast in an entirely different type of role and is very funny in a dream sequence where he is clunking around in a wet suit and fins dueling aboard a pirate ship and another where he is drunk trying to be suave on a crowded dance floor and failing.  Nice change to see Jacques smiling. French film, color.)
61. Giorno più corto, Il (1962)
... aka Le Jour le plus court 1962
... aka Shortest Day, The (1962) (USA)
62. Conquistatore di Corinto, Il (1962) .... Caius Vinicius
...aka Centurion, The (1962)

(A Roman Centurion is injured during a rebellion in early Corinth.  Loved by two women, he is betrayed by one and must fight to reunite with the one he loves.  The battle sequences and personal combat scenes are well done.  Good story but English version has coarse dubbing of Jacques' voice, the voice does not suit him - disappointing in that regard. Still worth a look or two.)
63. Figlio di Spartacus, Il (1963) .... Vezius
... aka Son of Spartacus...The Slave (1963)
(Steve Reeves plays Randus, the Son of Spartacus.  Well made film showing a less than heroic character for Jacques, but at lease he is not a coward this time.  Valiant effort by Reeves' character to help the slaves throw off the burden of the cruel & greedy Roman ruler, Crassus.  Good battle sequences and the one on one challenge between Jacques and Reeves is very lively, although, the villain obviously will die.  Color film with excellent dubbing.)
64.  55 Days at Peking (1963) .... Maj. Bobrinski
(European nations fighting China during the Boxer rebellion - very small part for Jacques, excellent acting by David Niven & Charleton Heston & a romance with Ava Gardner.)
65. Dirty Game, The (1965) .... Glazov
(Three stories of espionage - feels like an old "Secret Agent" episode - Jacques plays a bad guy - a so so film though it has it's moments.)
66. F.B.I. operazione Baalbeck (1964) .... Nick Mann,  Rossana Podesta...Isabel
.... aka Last Plane To Baalbeck (1964)
(Very Enjoyable film - Gun smuggling, secret agents and obviously a 60's film with beatnik type music in the background.  This is a mystery, drama and has a charming romantic tryst between Jacques and Rossana Podesta (Helen of Troy). Other than my own personal disappointment at the ending, it is definitely a good one.)
67. Zarabanda Bing Bing (1966).....Pierre
... aka Baleari operazione Oro (1966) (Italy)
... aka
Balearic Caper (1966) (USA)
(Hilarious mystery spoof with Jacques as a quirky inventor attempting to recover a treasure for whom three people are murdered in the first five minutes of the movie.  Many light hearted moments with Jacques having a troupe of children with no wife in view.  The confrontation with the murderous thief has Jacques jumping on his back trying to bring him down and their contrasting sizes offers the comic relief.  There is a great sense of the absurd throughout this film and a fine sound track by Benedetto Ghiglia.  In color and Italian, no subtitles.)
68. Per pochi dollari ancora (1967)...Major Sanders
... aka Fort Yuma Gold (1967) (USA)

(Spaghetti western with typical music of the genre. Jacques plays a Confederate officer attempting to steal gold from Fort Yuma.  Lots going on as undercover agent tries to gather evidence against Sanders.  A waste of Jacques' talents in a small role but he looks beautiful in color.  In Italian)
69. American secret service: cronache di ieri e di oggi (1968)
70. Midas Run (1969) .... Giroux
... aka Run on Gold, A (1969) (UK)
(Complicated crime caper which has Jacques portraying the weak, quickly discarded husband of the leading lady.  On the positive side, he does look positively divine in a black tuxedo.  Not much to recommend this film but I was curious as to see how it would end when the getaway began to unravel.  Richard Crenna and Fred Astaire star.  Color and in English.)
71. Hornet's Nest (1970) .... Maj. Taussig
... aka Lupi attaccano in branco, I (1970) (Italy)
(Rock Hudson is the hero, with many unhero like qualities, in this disquieting tale of war in a small Italian village.  Jacques has a small part as a despicable Nazi SS Major and is killed by one of his own men.  Unlikely group of boys seek revenge against Germans who have killed all the townspeople for hiding partisans.  Not a story to watch more than once or twice.  Color and in English)
72. Super Fly T.N.T. (1973) .... Matty Smith
(Very 70's music and mood.  Superfly goes on vacation and becomes involved with rebels who need guns.  He craftily pulls Matty, Jacques, into a high stakes poker hand where the loser must pay with something besides money.  The look of the loser who has decidedly lost his shirt is a familiar sentiment, Jacques plays it well.  Color, set in Rome, Jacques is thankfully not dubbed.)
73. "E.S.P." (1973) (mini) TV Series .... Ispettore capo
74.  "A Case for the Right" (episode # 1.26) 30 March 1973 - "Protectors, The" (1972) ...Fabrizzio

...aka Big Man: The False Etruscan (1988)(TV) (USA-video title)
86. Io, Peter Pan (1989) .... Bernard
87. Fuga dalla morte (1989)....Mark
....aka Bloody Moon
....aka Luna Di Sangue (1989)
(Gory thriller about a wealthy young woman who is seemingly going mad.  As the bloody, murderous story proceeds, it becomes obvious that Doktor Mark must be the murderer.  Could not find any good reviews of this one but I thought Jacques played a great evil guy with no remorse, he sounded so caring and concerned until the very end.  He is after the woman's money, of course....Chilling!)
88. Avaro, L' (1990) by Moliere

...aka Kleine Lord - Retter in der Not, Der (2000)
(Beautiful European setting - story of con woman who steals critical business information from soft hearted tycoon.  Small role for Jacques, not sure if he was a bad guy.  Watched German version and realized it was dubbed.  Italian version obviously original language.  When I brush up on my German, I will probably understand it better.  Still enjoyed it very much...)
