My reading of romance novels is a recently acquired obsession. These authors write the kind of stories that keep me reading into the late night hours. I enjoy romance series including the Magic Trilogy by Catherine Coulter and The Clayborne series by Julie Garwood. I love The Bedwyn series by Mary Balogh, The Lessons in Love series by Susanne Enoch and the Dark series by Christine Feehan . Virginia Henley and Jane Feather have a delightful grasp of the English history and their stories are never disappointing. Newly discovered authors Victoria Alexander, Liz Carlyle, Jude Deveraux, Joan Johnston, Nicole Jordan, Eloisa James, Sabrina Jeffries are a delightful addition to my list of the romance genre. Diana Gabaldon is on the top of my list of must read historical romance authors with her Outlander series.

Lyon's Gate - Read the book long after Sherbrooke Twins as I initially thought it would be too similar. When I finally read it, I was delighted at the humor and silliness that this family endures. One needs to suspend disbelief when reading any romance novel, maybe more so than any other. All plots are somewhat contrived but this one story shows us how loving a family can really be. They support a beloved son who is determined to blame himself for many extremely unfortunate decisions which resulted in his near death. If you love Catherine Coulter and want to learn more of the Sherbrookes, read this book.

Diana Gabaldon An enchanting series of romance, mystery and intrigue, impossible to put down. One of the best historical romance authors I have come across. The Outlander -
It is 1945 when Claire travels through the standing stone circle into 1743 and meets Jamie Fraser, an amazing Scottish warrior, beginning an adventure both frightening and exhilarating as she realizes this man is part of her soul. She has left a husband behind in her time but how can she be married to a man who does not yet exist? Dragonfly in Amber - Twenty years later, Claire is back in her own time. Her husband Frank is dead and she remembers her life with Jamie. After helping him escape his English captors and following him to Paris, they had been unable to prevent Bonnie Prince Charlie from gaining support for his claim to the English throne. Claire knows that the Scots warriors will lose their final battle against the English and is forced to return to her own time, just before the Battle of Culloden. She is pregnant with Jamie's child. Her fiancé Roger finds her missing and makes his own plans to follow. Both of them become involved in life threatening adventures trying to blend into the culture of the times and finally arrive at Fraser's Ridge in 1770. The Fiery Cross - Brianna and Roger marry midst the questions of baby Jemmy's parentage. Life in the back country and the beginnings of unrest in the colonies pulls Claire and her family into the midst of the battle for independence from England. It is still 1772, but the signs are becoming more distressing that war is coming. Roger and Brianna refuse to return to their own time. While Claire and Jamie face an uncertain future, together.
A Breath of Snow and Ashes - Time is marching towards the inevitable acts that will begin the war for independence. Jamie is 'encouraged' to become an Indian agent for the crown and Claire is kidnapped and violated but continues to practice medicine using what primitive methods available in this time. Both Claire and Jamie become drawn into problems and conflicts on The Ridge. It is frightening to know that they could die in a fire and fulfill the historical account of their deaths. As 1776 approaches, Claire and Jamie plan an ocean voyage to Scotland and return to America with Jamie's printing press, if they survive.
