Company Profile

Management and Ownership

I have been a data processing professional since 1978 with experience as a Programmer/Analyst I, II, III, Team leader, LAN Administrator, owner of my own consulting company and Director of Data Processing. I have implemented systems using COBOL, CICS, BASIC and dBase IV.

As the Director of Customer Support, I helped new installations and conversion customers learn how to use their new software. The customers were municipal courts and police departments, most of which are in Texas. As the primary installer of the software, In 3½ months, I traveled over 12,000 miles all in the state of Texas, except for one trip to Mississippi.

As a private consultant, I have written over 500 programs for inventory control, database management and financial positioning in BASIC, dBase III+, IV, V, Visual dBase and COBOL. I have also modified dozens of "canned" programs to the client specifications.

As a PC/Manager, I have been responsible for over 300 PC’s that have included several separate networks, using LANtastic, Windows for Workgroups, Windows 95/98/NT and Novell. I did all of the ordering, programming (on occasion), repairing (whenever possible), the installation of new computers, upgrading, networks (using Token-Ring, Arcnet and Ethernet), Personal NetWare and Windows [peer-to-peer network and client/server], upgrading standalones, software, installed ISDN and/or dial-up Internet service and training (time permitting) for

the PC’s. I have also built upgraded or changed dozens of web pages. I also recommended what and from whom to buy all hardware and software for the PC’s. My clients’ have range from attorneys, realtors, housewives, home offices, small and medium size companies and large Fortune 500 corporations in multiple states.

As a LAN Administrator, I helped determine the need, selected vendors, tested, loaded and installed seven Novell networks, one in multiple states. Each network had between four and twelve workstations. Each network had a modem in one of the workstations by which I used to help diagnose problems. The same workstation had an IRMA card for up/downloading data to an IBM mainframe computer. I wrote the scripts so that these transfers could be left to run unattended. Each of the networks had a combination of 286, 386, 486 or Pentium computers and all (except one that was 10-Base-T) were Token-Ring networks. I was the front line defense for anything that went wrong. I was to decide if the problem was hardware, software or other and to see that the problem was resolved in a timely fashion. I was called on to help diagnose, fix PC's and some teaching and replacement of standalone PC’s.

As PC/Manager, I was responsible for 46 PC’s that included three separate Novell networks. I did all the ordering, programming (rarely), repairing (whenever possible), the installation of new computers and networks and training (time permitting) for the PC’s. I also recommended what and from whom to buy all items for the PC’s. I also wrote COBOL and Command level CICS programs on the mainframe and installed a gateway for the LAN network to the mainframe.

As a Programmer/Analyst III Team leader, I was responsible with writing or rewriting COBOL batch and Command level CICS. I also had four Programmer/Analyst I’s and two Programmer/Analyst II’s that reported to me. I created a new and much tighter security system. I also coordinated the fine-tuning of the system by replacement of some programs and the creation of new programs to replace some of the hard coding of dates, entity codes and the like. About 60% of time, I was concerned with managerial related events, employee reviews, reprimands, salary reviews, and the interviewing of new prospective employees.

As a consultant, for a large hospital, I wrote an interface between a COBOL payroll system and a DIBOL accounting system.

As the director of data processing, I was responsible for system design, documentation, hardware operations and programming operations. Systems were developed using COBOL and DIBOL.

As a Programmer/Analyst, I was responsible for the implementation of a new batch and on-line Utility Billing System for billing water, gas, sewer and garbage. After obtaining a custom-made "turnkey" system, it required several dozen more batch programs and the writing or rewriting of several dozen CICS (macro and command level) programs. I also programmed an IBM 3762 cash processor to read OCR lines and to calculate discounts of up to three amounts in the scan line that was transmitted to IBM 370/145 by tape or by modem. I also programmed an IBM System/34 to transmit print from the print queue to IBM 370/145 and vice-versa using COBOL instead of RPG.
