UNIVERSAL CITY, TEXAS is at the north gate of Randolph Air Force Base on State Highway 78, Loop 1604, State Highway 218. The city was named by the developer, A. Milner, to designate the universal importance of the air base. Randolph Field opened on October 25, 1931. The base was designed in 1926 and 1927 by First Lt. Harold Clark and named after William Millican Randolph, a native of Austin, Texas, who, during 11 years of flying, earned a remarkable record and contributed immeasurably to the progress of aviation. On February 17, 1928, while returning to his duties at Kelly Field, his AT-4 crashed on takeoff from Gorman Field, Texas.

The Randolph Metrocom comprises a 70-square-mile triangle on the
Interstate 35 Austin-San Antonio Corridor including parts of Bexar, Comal and Guadalupe counties surrounding Randolph Air Force Base.

Year Round events are located in nearby San Antonio, Austin, Kerrville, San Marcos, New Braunfels, Vanderpool, and Fredericksburg, and Boerne, where the Roadrunners offer three YREs in 2003!

Numerous hotels, motels, and restaurants are available nearby. Visit San Antonio at http://www.mysanantonio.com/.

The German word, "VOLKSSPORTS," translates literally to "people's sports" and describes NON-COMPETITIVE WALKING, BICYCLING, and SWIMMING events having very lenient time limits.

Member Clubs of the International Federation of Popular Sports (IVV) and the American Volkssport Association (AVA) organize events throughout the year. Anyone may participate. These events provide participants the benefit of outdoor activity without excessive physical demands.

The Randolph Roadrunners meet on the first Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. each month to plan events. Guest speakers discuss topics related to our sport and our lifestyle. The Golden Corral Restaurant on Pat Booker Rd. in Universal City hosts the Club and visitors are always welcome.
