Fairy House

The Story of the Borrower Fairy's House

Unpacking from our last move, I found a box of family things my Mother gave to me years ago -- nothing with great intrinsic value, but little keepsakes from her life. Beside it were the boxes of "stuff from our childhood "that my Mother and Mother -in-Law gave to me, and boxes labeled "Our Children's Stuff."

As I looked through these boxes, warm fuzzy memories flooded back. I did not want to put all these memories back into their boxes to be forgotten again. It was then that the Borrower Fairy showed me a place to keep my wonderful memories that I could visit everyday.

The fairy family would make a home and furnish it with all the memories that were important to us. They used Granddad's cufflinks for tables, Abigail's baby shoe and John's silver spoon for beds. When full size memories would not fit to their tiny house, I searched for miniatures that replicated their full size counterparts. You can see the lavender roses, made by Helen David, that we have planted every place we've lived, tiny china reminiscent of Grandmother's made by Jo Parker, or the portraits of each cat made by Karl Blindheim. Every time I pass the Fairy's house I see a memory that gives me a warm, happy feeling.
