1. Cut 2 SIDE HEAD pieces. With the right sides together, sew along side with tiny overcast stitches.

2. Cut 1 CHIN / HEAD piece. Sew to SIDE HEAD along side of each piece.

3. Cut 2 HEAD BACK pieces. With right sides together, sew along the line marked CB or the Center Back of the head.

4. With right sides together, sew the front of the head to the back of the head, leaving the bottom of the CHIN / HEAD piece open. Gently turn the head right side out and stuff with fiber fill.

5. Make FRENCH KNOTS* for the nose and eyes.

6. Cut 2 FRONT BODY. With right sides together, sew along the line CF or Center Front.

7. Cut 2 BACK BODY. With right sides together, sew along the CB or Center Back.

8. Beginning at one end of line E, sew the FRONT BODY to the BACK BODY, leaving line E unsewn. Turn bear body and stuff.

9. Tuck under the raw edges on line E and sew closed. Tuck under the raw edges of the head and sew to the bear body.

10. Cut 2 FRONT PAW pieces. With right sides together, overcast around the edges except for the space between the slashes. Turn right side out and stuff. Turn the raw edges under and stitch closed. Repeat step nine for second paw.

11. Cut 2 REAR LEG pieces. With right sides together, overcast around the edges except for the space between the slashes. Turn right side out and stuff. Turn the raw edges under and stitch closed. Repeat step ten for second leg.

12. Cut 2 EARS from the double thick fabric and glue to the head. From the lighter colored felt, cut slightly smaller EAR piece and glue to the ear as the inner ear (lining). Make a small bow and glue it under his chin.

*French Knots

1. Bring the needle to the right side of the fabric.

2. With the left hand, wind the thread around the needle 2 or 3 times.

3. Insert the needle very close to where it first came through the fabric.

4. While adjusting the tension of the coils on the needle with the left hand, draw the needle through to the wrong side of the fabric to form the knot.

Tips On Turning

Using a tweezers or hemostat, slip the points through the opening (between the slashes). Grab the seam at the most distant edge and clamp the tweezers or hemostat on it. Gently pull the bear part right side out. If you are careful to catch the seam in your tweezers or hemostat, your sewing will never pull apart on you.
