Heart of America
Three riverboats are steamin' the Mississippi River and three of its tributaries: Ohio, Cumberland and Tennessee Rivers. These steamboats, paddlewheel included, invoke images of Mark Twain, but with all the modern amenities.
The Delta Queen, The American Queen, and the Mississippi Queen steam as far north as St. Paul, Minnesota and Pittsburgh, Pennslyvania, and as far south as New Orleans and Galveston, Texas. Along the way you have a chance to visit Civil War sites, The Grand Ole Opry, or take in beautiful fall foliage. How about a side trip to Branson, Missouri for some world class entertainment?
Cruise West offers cruises in Alaska's Inside Passage, Prince William Sound, British Columbia, Columbia and Snake Rivers, The California Wine Country, Mexico's Sea of Cortez (Cortes), and Costa Rica and Panama. Cruise West's ships have a maximum passenger capacity of 114, in a casual atmosphere. Their smaller size allows them to get closer to shorelines.
Pacific Northwest
America's newest sternwheeler, Queen Of The West, makes regular excursions from Portland, Oregon on the Columbia, Willamette, and Snake Rivers. Steaming as far east as Lewiston, Idaho, she passes through the Columbia River Gorge, an area of breathtaking scenery.
Alaska has a cornucopia of awe inspiring vistas. Some of these sights are best viewed from smaller ships such as the Impress of the North sternwheeler and Cruise West's intimate ships. Start in Seattle and steam north to Skagway. Fine dining and onboard entertainment are always part of the package.
Barging Through America
This is an unusual way to take a river cruise. The R/B River Explorer is the first and only hotel barge on America's waterways. It is actually three vessels: the towboat Miss Nari, the barge La Salle, and the barge DeSoto. The cruises are similar to the Delta Queen, mentioned above.
