Clearing Your Ears
Equalizing the pressure between your middle ear and the rest of your sinuses can be a problem for air travellers. Yawning and chewing gum, while a plane decends, are the best bets for most people. For adults with long-standing problems or who are suffering from congestion, an over-the-counter decongestant, such as Sudafed, may help balance the pressure. Additionally, using a nasal spray may be helpful. For young children, nursing is a good means to help balance the middle ear pressure. As a last resort, crying works well but may unsettle or annoy other passengers.
