Tips on Packing Your Luggage

• Enclose identification inside each bag.
• Do not pack any items that might be excluded for reimbursement by airlines, such as electronics, cameras and jewelry.
• Check in early to ensure that your bags have a reduced chance of not being loaded on your flight.
• Check the destination on the airline's tags attached to your bags, and keep your part of the tags in a secure place until you retrieve your bags at the destination.
• Remove old bar-code tags that could confuse baggage handlers at the airport.  If a machine reads an old tag, your luggage could be delayed or misrouted.
• If bad weather or operational delays are predicted, try to carry as much as possible with you on the plane in the event of rerouting or missed connections.
• Keep a copy of your travel itinerary in your luggage, so the airline can determine, if necessary, where to send your delayed bags.
• If your luggage is delayed, mishandled or lost, make a claim at the airport, if time permits, as your bags may be on the next arriving flight. If that's not possible, file your claim with a photocopy of your passenger ticket stub as soon as possible.
• Check overhead bins carefully after you remove your carry-on luggage or coats, because keys, checkbooks and other loose items may have tumbled out during flight (or one of those famous bumpy landings!)
