The poems of J. Peter Mishler build up slowly and deliberately, filling us with a sort of angst that we know the author intended. They build up tension and nervousness, then end with frustration and despair. Self-effacing in their solemnity, these poems ruthlessly analyze the emotional weaknesses of their author, leaving us wiser and more educated in the bargain.
