Reminder

By now everyone has probably heard about the recent tragic accident in which one of our Texas District Directors was fatality injured. There are probably many stories out there right now as to the how the accident occurred, some with some degree of factuality, others purely speculation. That, however, is not the point of this article. Instead it is to become a reminder to each and every rider about one major fact of life. In an instant, our whole world can turn upside down.

Why is it important to be reminded of this? I will focus from a personal view. Being an MSF instructor, chapter and assistant district educator, I watch every rider I see out there with scrutinized eyes. While some riders are good, cautious and stay within their limits, others press the boundaries to the edge of being outside the limits of themselves and their machine. Accidents will occur. They always have and always will. Some are minor. We look at these as inconveniences that may cause a few scratches to our motorcycles and us. Others end up more serious and with devastating results. The former shouldn't just be looked at haphazardly though. They should be looked at as learning experiences. A time to reflect and see what happened and correct the cause. The latter serves as "wake-up" calls. They should be viewed as a reminder that we are vulnerable, especially when on two- and even three-wheeled vehicles.

Life is precious and fleeting. It's time for a reflection. Remind yourself.

Until next time - Ride Safe and Stay Visible.
