Mr. Iocca has overall responsibility for the operation of ZEI, Inc., and direction of the firm's engineering, architectural and management consulting services. ZEI's services are addressed primarily to the manufacturing, electric power, chemical, petroleum and natural gas industries, and focus on energy supply, transportation, distribution, utilization, conversion and conservation. EXPERIENCE SUMMARY . . . Prior to founding ZEI in 1973, Mr. Iocca was Vice President and Director of the Energy Process Systems Division at Commonwealth Associates, Inc., responsible for all projects involving natural gas and petroleum facilities, peaking and combined cycle power generation, power plant fuel conversions, and special projects including acoustics and vibrations. Mr. Iocca was also instrumental in organizing and serving as an Officer and Member of the Board of Directors of two European companies that were involved in the design of several large natural gas projects in Western Europe and the United Kingdom. He has also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of Zinder Companies of Washington, D.C. Mr. Iocca has over thirty years experience in the energy field, including projects involving power generation, gas and liquids transmission, storage and distribution, and processing involving liquefied natural gas (LNG), and the production of synthetic gas using petroleum liquids and coal. These projects included consulting engineering, design, cost estimating, procurement and construction management. Earlier in his career, Mr. Iocca was responsible for the civil and structural design of large coal-fired power plants, including coal handling facilities, soil bearing and piling foundations, reinforced concrete and steel structures, railroad sidings, and other plant facilities. Other civil/structural design activities included harbor and dock structures, reservoir spillways, navigation locks, industrial buildings, bridges, and static and dynamic analysis of foundations for large reciprocating compressors and turbine generators. Mr. Iocca's past experience has also included technical investigations relating to foundation failures, detrimental vibrations and effects of wave forces on harbor structures. He investigated and reported on the effects of diversion of Lake Michigan water on the well-being of private companies and communities within the State of Michigan, and testified as an expert witness at the Lake Michigan Diversion hearing conducted by the United States Supreme Court. Mr. Iocca developed an analytical model for assessing the life expectancy of cast iron mains for natural gas and water distribution systems, and served as Deputy Project Manager for twenty-four natural gas distribution company studies on developing life expectancy and replacement programs. He also conducted technical presentations of ZEI's study findings and recommendations before state regulatory commission staffs on behalf of five of the client companies. Mr. Iocca has managed and participated in several studies related to assessing the management efficiency of a large utility company, assessing the market and estimating the associated costs for entering the market for a patented high-tech device. He also assessed the advisability of investing in a high-tech startup company. Mr. Iocca has co-authored technical and economic studies, and given expert witness testimony in connection with natural gas and liquid pipeline tax court cases. He has also authored several technical publications in the energy field, including compressed air energy storage and other developing technologies, and the design features of the Ommen Compressor Facility (located in the Netherlands), which is the largest in the world.
