ZEI designs steam generation and distribution systems for use in manufacturing processes and building heating. ZEI's engineers also provide services for surveying existing installations and modifying existing systems to increase efficiency and meet EPA air quality standards. Controls and Automation Systems
ZEI provides complete design and consulting services relating to equipment, automation and control of plant systems for manufacturing operations. These services include software system design for dispatching, optimizing system efficiency, data handling and utilization, and design services for data acquisition systems, supervisory control and telemetering systems, system automation, computer applications and control centers. ZEI can serve as an extension of the client's planning staff to assist with conceptual development of a plant system, prepare layout drawings consistent with the approved concept, and assist in the master planning, including cost estimating, cash flow forecasts, financial assistance and project scheduling.
ZEI's plant site development services encompass site arrangement, access roads, railroad spurs, drainage and environmental considerations.
Coal Unloading Facilities and Docks
With the increasing restrictions on burning high-sulfur coal, it is becoming necessary to consider western coals, whose delivery requires more detailed planning because of the increased complexity of logistics and other problems. ZEI can provide assistance with regard to logistics planning and can design receiving, unloading and transfer facilities, whether delivery is by rail or water transport, and conversions for switching to coal.
Ash Handling and Disposal Systems
ZEI has experience in designing pipeline systems to transport ash and other solids in slurry form, and in designing dikes and other more conventional ash impounding systems. Because of environmental, land usage and space limitation considerations, it is becoming increasingly necessary to consider disposal systems other than the more conventional ash disposal systems. Using ash for marketable products is particularly important where plants are located near large population centers and/or where chemical stack gas clean-up systems are being used. ZEI can provide services relative to the design of conventional ash handling and disposal systems, and can determine the feasibility of alternate solutions for ash and other contaminant disposal.
Many existing plants require an acoustics investigation to ensure that OSHA regulations are being met. ZEI's engineers have the experience necessary to undertake in-plant acoustic surveys, determine areas where corrective measures should be taken, develop designs for the necessary modifications, prepare budget estimates and drawings for the required modifications, monitor the modification work as it progresses, and inspect the completed facility to ascertain that the modifications are complete and as specified.
ZEI can survey existing plants for conformance to OSHA safety regulations, develop required design modifications and supervise their installation.
Atmospheric Emissions Control
and Monitoring ZEI can design a stack emissions sampling and monitoring system as well as a stack cleaning system, that will conform to EPA and/or state and local regulations. ZEI can also evaluate modern chemical stack gas clean-up systems and problems associated with waste disposal and/or marketing end products.
Vibration Analyses and
Corrective Modifications ZEI's engineers can analyze systems where detrimental vibration is occurring (usually piping equipment foundations and ductwork systems) and determine the necessary corrective modifications.
