Synopsis
ZEI places great importance on the quality of its product. Quality assurance begins with the project scope definition and continues through construction drawing preparation, specification writing, procurement, construction and commissioning to ensure high quality and accuracy. Quality assurance has been made the direct responsibility of the President and the Executive Project Manager. ZEI's quality assurance policies are intended to:
ZEI implements its quality assurance requirements through several levels of review, checking and verification, including independent checks by qualified discipline engineers based on design calculations, agreed Scope of Work, and reference data, including that received from the client and vendors; conformance with codes, specifications, and available client standards. Emphasis is given to adequacy of design and verifying that all drawing dimensions and tabulations are correct. In addition, an interdisciplinary check is made between electrical, mechanical, and civil/structural drawings for construction or routing interferences as part of the overall checking procedure. A final review is conducted by the President and principals of the Company selected by the President based on experience background applicable to the particular project under review. Finally, after drawing corrections are made, they are rechecked and signed off in sequence, beginning with the originator and checker, and include the discipline engineers, project engineers and managers, and lastly, ZEI's Project Manager.
Project Management
and ZEI is committed to providing its Clients with the very best service possible within project time and other constraints. This will require that each participant on a Client project perform to the limit of their capability so that satisfactory quality is maintained at all times in preparing designs, drawings, procurement lists, specifications, reports and other project-related documents required to complete each project. This document describes the Company's procedures for effective project management and quality control to maintain the desired level of quality for all project-related work. Because project management and quality assurance activities are so highly interrelated, the procedures described in this document cover both of these activities. The overall responsibility for the Company's Project Management and Quality assurance Program rests with Mr. James M. Iocca, P.E., Chairman and President of ZEI, Inc., who will be the final authority in all matters relating to the program. The Project Management and Quality Assurance Coordinator responsible for implementation and day-to-day administration of the program is Mr. Robert W. Potts, P.E., Executive Project Manager. Accordingly, Mr. Potts is directly responsible for the preparation, revision and implementation of ZEI's Quality Assurance Procedures relating to designing, checking and drafting, to maintain overall work quality. In addition, Mr. Potts is responsible for conducting audits, documenting the results, and conducting follow-up audits to be certain that any corrective actions that he deems necessary are implemented. Mr. Potts will assign a senior member of ZEI's staff to be responsible for implementing and monitoring ZEI's Quality Assurance Procedures for each Client project. This Staff Engineer will be authorized, under Mr. Potts direction, to originate, check and/or approve various engineering-related documents. Upon the initiation of a Client project, a Quality Assurance Indoctrination Program shall also be initiated by the Quality Assurance Staff Engineer and will involve detailed discussions with all project personnel relating to the intent and plan for implementation of each quality assurance procedure. All employees assigned to the project who are directly involved in engineering and other project-related activities shall participate in the indoctrination program. The Quality Assurance Coordinator will prepare a report of each indoctrination session held, indicating the personnel who were in attendance and the design procedures reviewed. The report shall be filed in a Quality Assurance File maintained by Mr. Potts. Additional sessions shall be conducted whenever new procedures are written, or whenever significant revisions are made to existing procedures, or whenever experience indicates a need for change that will further enhance ZEI's Quality Assurance activities. A master list of personnel involved in the Project Management and Quality Assurance Program shall be maintained by Mr. Potts. This list will indicate the name of each person and the latest procedure revision for which that individual received indoctrination, as well as the date the indoctrination occurred. The indoctrination of all personnel shall be kept current with respect to the latest revision of all procedures. ZEI's Quality Assurance Procedures cover the following project-related subject matter:
